What a good idea. I was trying to think of how I could build a large enough netted cage to put over my brussel sprouts. This is ideal. Now all I have to do is find someone with an old gazebo they dont want. Any offers?

Ok i`ll own up I am quite besotted with Rocky. Strange - I never would have thought I could like a chicken so much. Always was one to fall for the underdog though. Chantal however is his biggest fan and he is one spoilt chicken . If he goes back into the hen house I`ll miss him but it will be great ...

Yes Piglet I have got a faithful hound but I`m not sure he`ll be a good guard dog - more likely to lick them to death than chase them away .If the owner of the onions hasn`t got them who has? Sad to think a bunch of onions is worth nicking. I did used to manage a charity shop and people stole from t...

I`ve got to mention the Discworld novels by Terry Pratchett. Not in the literary category of some of your choices but they are very funny, have great characterisation and brilliant use of language.

Well the heavens opened in rugby this afternoon. It went dark very quickly and then the thunder and lightning started followed by the rain. The air outside feels cool for the first time this week - BLISS! Hopefully it rain for the rest of the day. Hope you all got some rain too.

I had one plant(over wintered) which was covered in blackfly. I pulled the whole thing out and threw it in the bin. The others seem to have escaped (touch wood). My spring grown beans seem fine at the moment.

gherkins

My gherkin seedlings have just shown themselves and I was wondering if I should grow them in a greenhouse or whether they can go on the allotment :?: They are on the kitchen window sill at the moment and will need potting on soon.
Never grown these before so any advice appreciated.
Thanks Seedling
