Hello David - that's a relief, after me telling you to go for it. We are on to our Foremost now too. They are very white, but have a real potato flavour we find. Especially when compared to Swift. I will post in more detail a bit later on re our container results this year. Enjoy!

Garden Clogs/Shoes - Seeking Advice

I excitedly bought a pair of garden clogs last year, thinking they would be a great alternative to wellies in the summer garden. But I am so disappointed. I struggle to keep them on! It is an easier job if walking downhill. Uphill, nearly impossible. If you wear them, do you have this trouble? Have ...

Hello Diane - I had not heard of these until you mentioned them. They sound interesting. Just found a link re growing them in the UK - m Might have a go with them myself. Next season, I think. I am enjoying making fruit ice creams and sorbets at the moment - these sound like they could make a great ...

Blueberries (unless alkaline soil)? Huckleberries? We are growing Huckleberries outside for the first time this year. They look like small, dark blueberries and taste like bilberries - sweet, but not very tangy when cooked. Not yet sure what they are like raw. We are experimenting! :D

Yes, that's exactly how I see it Barry. This link explains the withdrawal significance more clearly, in the event you need it - m Quote: 'In addition since 1991 there has been an ongoing review of all garden (and agricultural chemicals) by the EU. This has resulted in and will continue to result in ...

Okay, had another look and here may be the info you need, Barry - http://www.pesticides.gov.uk/fg_leraps.asp?id=1198 I suppose withdrawl timetable applies to the UK?

I have also checked my box of Pathclear and it does not contain paraquat.

I have found the same as you, Chantal. All info points to the fact that it is not banned in the UK. Below are quotes taken from this link - m ' Regulatory status Finland and Sweden banned paraquat because of its high toxicity. Austria banned because of high toxicity and high frequency of poisonings(...

Grock, here are a couple for you which are just using elders only. From the Delia Online site, posted by Donatella and authored by Eliana Panchieri. Elderflower Jam 1 Kg elderflower berries 800 g sugar (less than that would mean it won’t keep well) Wash and weight the berries, put them in a pan and ...

Hello Madam5plates - interesting user name. Anything to do with multi-tasking? Re the white worm. I don't know that I will be much help really. From your description it sounds like a baby millipede to me, but I am no expert. We have lots of millipedes in our soil and they do behave as you have descr...

Oh David, don't be too disappointed re the fact you could only see 'marbles'. There will be more mature ones (ours were 2-3") right in the middle where you can't see them. That's why I suggested you empty bag and use what's there. If you wait until the outside small ones are a decent size, the ...

Search Facility - Topic Only Option

Just wondering if it would be possible to provide a 'Topic Only' option within the search facility? I often find I can remember the title of a thread, so put in the key words for that, but end up with a long list of often irrelevant threads which have the key words spread randomly throughout the me...

We are trying some of those suggested above, for the first time this year - various melons, cape gooseberries and aubergines. We do exactly as Chantal does re the 'flea beetle' crops and are now harvesting pak choi. Next we will be sowing rocket (which flea beetle has always had outside) and cress. ...

Hello David - we grow HG too and after getting too impatient and find more air in the pod than we expected, we now press both sides of the pod to see how much give there is. They should have no 'give', feel hard and the top side of each pod (above the line of peas) should no longer be flat, as the a...
