Re: Flowers
I've been ordered by my OH to dig the dahlias tubers out and store them in the shed for the winter. Mother in law said the same. I told them they should do it so I will learn by watching So we already have the box and newspapers to store them, but they are still flowering so they are enjoying being ...

Re: Spent Coffee Grounds on Allotments
Actually since coffee grounds are not an approved pesticide under EU regulations it is already technically illegal to use them as a slug or snail killer. It wouldn't be illegal to use them as a mulch since you are not using them to kill anything then, only to improve the soil It may not be on the a...

Re: shop garlic growing?
Thank you for all the nice recommendations. I have now bought two heads of garlic (early white) which I will plant in a raised bed this weekend. The only question I have left is about slugs. I know they are around having gobbled up the rest of the salad and now feasting on the beetroot leaves, so am...

Re: publishing date ofDecember issue
Nothing has arrived in Kent either (yet)
- but it is so odd to wait for a December issue when November is not yet here (the month, not the mag!)!
Oh I do wonder what interesting seeds we'll get this time

Re: Raised Bed & Greenhouse
Following advice from magazine I intend to make 3off raised beds 2ft x 4ft either 12in or 18in deep. Reason behind this is I am hoping it will keep the dog away as she does not like investigating at a higher level, easier on the body and I have 2 bulk bags of dirt, both have been de weeded and one ...

Re: Roasted carrots
The tastiest on this batch were actually the Purple Sun. They remained firm and the taste of carrots still came through the honey and herbs. I will plant them again next year! Second came the F1 Resistafly, very traditional. The white one were the disappointment this time around. Maybe I let them gr...

3 wishes for the garden?
Hello, If you had 3 wishes for the garden - what would they be and why... Mine would 1. a slug repellent that makes them go away for good. I would enjoy my midnight walks in the garden so much more without seing those bl**dy things having a party on my salads 2. an anti blight device so that we can ...
