Re: Solar Power?

OK! Maybe not the solar option - from 2 fronts understanding any of it or affording it! I take back my 'doable' statement! I also watched a few vids & as easy as they try to make it seem it is nowhere near simple from a novice perspective. Maybe next year nature will remember where I live & ...

Solar Power?

Anyone got a small solar set up on their plot/garden? I have been thinking about the extremes in the tunnel & I have moved my citrus down there now as they are too big for the greenhouse or inside. They will enjoy being outside down there during the summer, but have aborted some of their wee fru...

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs.

I sowed my broad beans a few weeks ago in the tunnel & once again they just popped up in time for the mice visits. (Despite the recommended peppermint oil deterrent). But again, taking on the find from last year that just re-planting the little tops left looking sad laying on the soil has again ...

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs.

As per usual my phone weather report lied big time, but I did have a wee giggle while hiding in the tunnel with it chucking it down when it pinged & changed to heavy showers from light showers! :) Fortunately all todays jobs on the list where indoors so shelves finished in the shed, outdoor furn...

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs.

Well we never got the -6C but cold enough! Unfortunately at work today & the rest of the week - or fortunately; as can't be tempted by the bad ideas to 'just check the plot' & it is warm & cosy in the office.

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs.

Big mistake going down today, but I like to make the most of my days off & tomorrow is not looking attractive at all! (-6C & heavy snow)! Now I know I am a Lilly livered southerner but pretty tough in comparison to the home born & plan was finish shed tidy & tunnel clear & prep. ...

Re: Home-made bacon

The one I would try if I could get the cut is just a dry brine of salt, not soaked. I found it on Pinterest, some 'Frontier Women' or 'Amish' post. On the subject of cuts we have found a new proper butcher. Right in the middle of Covid 1 he set up on the industrial estate near us along with the plum...

Re: Blueberries

I'd love to advise but although I don't loose plants the fruit is sparse, small & not worth fighting the birds for. I have 3 which were supposed to fruit at different times to give a longer harvest but one never has so wondering if these need a partner & I got duped, even though the limited ...

Tunnel too damp!

Anyone got any ideas to dry out the tunnel a bit. With all the rain it is continuously damp inside where it seeps under the buried cover, luckily only on the outer edges for about 1' or slightly more. I still have to water the inner edges. I have green algae stuff on the soil & white fluffy mild...

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs.

OK down here for most of the morning but about 1pm it lashed down. I saw the dark cloud moving over but did not expect it to be so angry & stop moving when it hit the plot. Inside the tunnel with both dogs soaking wet & doing the obligatory shake it was loud, (that's both the rain being so h...

Re: here's what's cool.

No 9 is not easy for me - I am & always have been pants at remembering names. You can get away with it with peer colleagues, with mate, honey, chick etc. Not so with formal meetings so I generally go in with just Hello, how are you & straight into chat, hoping someone will say Hi to who I am...

Re: Omelette.

Isn't it fun that eggs are so divisive? A bit like the strength of a cup of tea! Taste is so personal & subjective based on memories, area/country you grew up, how good the chef/mother was at cooking them. So many variables to factor in but it makes us - us! Still not venturing into eggy bread t...

Re: Fixing Greenhouse!

I never looked at the obvious sites in my searching around but that B & Q one is well reasonable. I have phoned the handyman who seems nice, I would prefer a face to face (OK mask to mask) meeting & chat. He is up for it but is booked solid for the next 6 - 8 weeks which is fine as I will tr...
