Seriously, they get crops overwinter and into spring (under mesh), and figure that just growing something is good for the soil. When it bolts in spring, it goes into the compost heap If you're in...

You could try planting the cloves shallower than usual, and mulching heavily - during the long growing season the worms should drag a lot of it into the soil, and you'll be able to mix it in at harvest time :D

Hi vicki, July is a good month for sowing and planting out - the last of the crops for this year, and the first for overwintering.
I find this very helpful: http://www.gardenaction.co.uk/
If you enter your postcode, the list adjusts for your temps etc.
Happy gardening! :D

Yep skip, they taste very good, and someone on this forum says the flower buds of scorzonera taste good (they are a perennial and will continue growing in a 2nd year to fatten up). They are easy to grow or I wouldn't be growing them! If you'd like to try a few, send me a pm and I'll pop some in the ...

Yay catbud! A special moment when you get the first fruits - every time. Bonus points for growing something your household actually likes to eat  (I'll do better next year) :D

My plot is nettle free pillbug - I got some nettle seed and sowed them by the fence, cos they make such a great tea and addition to the compost heap (not to mention an early 'spinach' for the household) :D

I wanted to try Hasta this year but was late ordering and they were out of stock! Will get an order in earlier this time. Ordinary Veg Spag are nice, but need a lot of butter and sauce - hoping that pyjamas and hasta will be more interesting in their own right

Over the years I've learned to live with bindweed On thickly mulched beds in cultivation, I treat it as an annual weed - it's easily pulled up through the mulch with quite a bit of root which shrivels in the sun I put a black plastic path between me and my neighbour's lottie (which is smothered in t...
