All this talk about it being winter is wishing your life away, for me proper winter starts on the sulstace. Guess I am fortunate as not getting many minus's like others around the country, plenty of water though although looks like first covering of snow this morning.

Re: What are you going to use when peat is gone ?

Forgot to mention I use a lot of Perlite at seed planting time, not sure if this is an alternative to peat.

Wonder what peat in the compost is supposed to do?

Re: What are you going to use when peat is gone ?

Fortunately I have an abundance of home grown compost from 5 pallet size bays plus one extra bay for manure.

I have been adding FBB for couple of years, used potato fertilizer for 1st time last year which seemed to help and using Onion, garlic& shallot fertilizer this year.

It is white.
There are loads of pigeons & collard doves here but not seen any blackbirds, usually see them when they are looking for worms.
Thanks you both for your help.

Egg Shell Identification

Been finding egg shells like the one in the picture when taking dog for walk. These are always on the road not under bushes as if they are from a nest.

Can anybody identify which bird has laid it?

Re: Chestnuts vs horsechestniyts

Substitute me for the cat as I try squatting the flees with tea towel, which upsets the dog even more when she comes in to see what I am up to.
