Well - a bit more than a week later - our grafted tomatoes produced more fruit, earlier and bigger as they did last year. Having said that, this year's crop is poor overall, as are most of our fruit and veg.

We're planning on only growing grafted tomatoes next year, so we'll see how that works out!

We grow it every year. We thin it out as you would carrots and use the little stems in salads and soups. Then - as JB says - we get a bit more serious about excluding the light. We haven't had any real success with self blanching.

The ones grown outside sit on a substantial layer of manure with a hefty sprinkling of chicken pellets. The tubs have some manure in the bottom and some pellets but we always add a liquid feed each week.
