Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs.

Didn't go down today as alternating days until my back behaves, but it is much better. I experimented on how I get home from the plot & tried going over the over bridge via the ramp, rather than the stairs & I think it was better even if longer & I had to dodge a few mobility scooters &a...

Re: Tomato seeds

Sorry caroleshorney, Never even heard of it, so looked on line. Seems it is a precious tom that the French are very keen on keeping it as most answers are in French! Brexit & plant/seed passports are going to make it even harder to get. Would it be worth checking the seed bank of rare varieties,...

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs.

We had sun all day which quickly cleared the mist hanging around when walking down but I managed to get well muddy before getting to the plot as the woods are in need of some gravel top ups on the paths but council is broke. I heeled in 3/4's of the leeks left after putting down a membrane path &...

Re: How to cure grape leaves turning brown

Could be scale you see on the wood, I have had it on my outdoor ones. You can pick them off which is quite therapeutic but make sure you flick them into a container so none of the little guys escape. Rubbing alcohol or white spirit also gets through their scales. I recently had them on my lemon tree...

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs.

Sneaky little frost this morning when I went down & a lot of time scrapping ice off the paths. Got the asparagus weeded, fixed some netting & dog proof barriers that went for a little journey as it was a bit blustery. Didn't get to move the leeks as those beds were too soggy. It's already ge...

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs.

We did get a break in the rain but I did not go down as it would have been way too wet through the woods as probably about 24hrs of consistent rain prior & I did not fancy tripping over the dog into the mud. Tomorrow is looking better so I will go down, but take the high path as fewer bikes use ...

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs.

Well I was tested today alerting the insurance company. Had to ring the police as we got no incident number, then when I finally got through to them I rang the insurance company to find they have outsourced nearly all parts of their insurance & then when I got through to the 3rd company they did...

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs.

Well I'll be walking to the plot again for awhile as the car killed itself. It was very impressive & an unusual encounter. Mr was coming to pick me up & turned into the road off the roundabout & the car lost its steering & it ended up nicely perched on the barrier on the central rese...

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs.

Well I risked the gales as for once it was not raining as well. Made really good progress despite the wind but I did not have to net anything. Got a bit hairy in the afternoon when the galvanised sheeting on the neighbours chicken shed blew off. The first sheet just flipped over the fence but luckil...

Re: Grow organic vegetables in small spaces

Hi Guy! It is easy to be organic, so no problems there as just like OH says just make your own compost. Keep a little space in a corner or biggish wooden box & throw in your crop roots; soil attached, any gone over plants, OK to use any bought ones as well. Cover it to warm it up as it breaks do...

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs.

Managed to get down this morning as the anticipated break in the rain actually happened! It was very pleasant & for once things went to plan. I bought a very reduced price plastic shelving unit for behind the shed to store the black plastic I am lifting off the beds. After a wee panic when I fou...

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs.

All good plans etc. etc.! Heavy frost then rain all morning. Looks like I may have a chance to go down early tomorrow, but it looks a short window, but I'm sure I can do a few things at least, if this prediction is right of course!

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs.

Amazed at the max temp in the tunnel lately, thermometer showing around 30C for a while. (I hope the vent is opening). It is taking a toll on the lettuce & stuff in there & with it being so damp & humid & I had other little jobs like potting on so put other things on hold to give it ...
