Re: Spring Bits and Bobs.
It's still the best mag so I buy it & I do use their sow/plant guide & look at deals in the advertisements & prizes. It could do with a bit of a refresh, maybe a recipe section relevant to the available crops in season, perhaps submitted by readers anytime but catalogue for when suitable...

Solar Pest Repeller
I am just advising really, as I have mentioned this LIDL repeller before & noted it is back in this weeks Middle of Lidl garden sale starting tomorrow. I have one covering the front of the tunnel & plan to get another to cover the area at the back of the tunnel pointing down to the shed &...

Re: Spring Bits and Bobs.
Either rain or strong winds; mostly both for the rest of the week. I am missing the car as I could go down there & just hide in the tunnel regardless of the weather but don't fancy getting soaked & cold just getting there & back & the dog certainly moans! The car is a write off so ha...

Re: Spring Bits and Bobs.
Prepped 2 beds & sown some bits in one of the them in the tunnel. Slowest job was digging out the water cress, which was well rooted & spread, but saved some stems with roots to start a fresh bed. Slimy things were in abundance & I even found a small rat/mouse skull. Still got 2 beds on ...

Re: Spring Bits and Bobs.
Not a fun day to be out & about, but managed a quick early shop. Was a freezing wind but the rain & hail thankfully waited until I was home. Tomorrow looks OK so I can get back in the zone with sorting the tunnel beds ready & putting up any structures required for each bed (no gargoyles)...

Re: Spring Bits and Bobs.
I am officially very sad.....! Who'd have known playing with pipe lagging was so much fun & rewarding, it's so sticky but cushioned so you can mould shapes & yes moulding a dog finial out of it was unnecessary! As indicated I deviated from sorting the tunnel to more securing of the outside n...

Re: Spring Bits and Bobs.
Raab are great to grow vivienz as pop up pretty quickly & you get multiple heads, small but perfectly formed & full of taste as well as the leaves which aren't too ribby. I tend to do successional sows in the same bed, probably a no, no but no proper brassica's follow. However like all brass...

Re: Spring Bits and Bobs.
We won't blame you OH no-one is in control of Mother Nature! It has been beautiful few days but already the weather guys are saying a cold snap coming over the weekend. I am feeling rather chuffed with myself as I finally got the frame up for the net tunnel. Only moderate cussing. :) Hopefully it is...

Re: Collard greens
Spring Greens are right in season now & really cheap. I got a huge bag with 3 in it for 65p from the orange supermarket. My own should be following soon, just waking up & growing strongly again. We are lucky with all our Brassica choices in the UK.

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs.
It's gone very retro black & green on here! The only real change other than the colour pallet is the options re; editing, deleting etc. which is good. You are going to tell me they have always been there aren't you?

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs.
Either a tunnel or a greenhouse will make a big difference to your growing, extending the season substantially. You can get some really posh styled greenhouses with the cute lattice work & finials like you see in the stately homes gardens so it is a design statement as well.

Re: Collard greens
I tried them & not impressed, they are really tough, despite boiling for ages. I stick to the UK normal varieties now. Funnily I was chatting about them to the lady on the opposite plot after she declined my offer of some seedlings. She went to the US for a wedding & they were served as part...

Re: Leek seedlings
Hi Myrkk! Mine are growing well but skinny as I would expect & about the same height as yours. Their bed is not ready yet so won't be planted out until next month but they will still be skinny but hopefully a few inches taller! What is important is their root growth which is quite substantial co...

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs.
Took the dog down on the bus today as had to find an alternative route as once again there was an incident in the woods with an aggressive dog, no puncture injury on her but he did get a mouth full of fur. It is just stressing her; (& me), too much to go there now as it's becoming too frequent &...
