Why are atoms the source of all fake news? Because they make up everything!

Raspberry canes

Gorgeous weather this a.m. so spent the morning extending my raspberry "frame" to take the 5 new canes I bought this week. They're all together in a pot so I've got to separate them. Is it best to plant each in a separate hole, or dig a trench? Use just the soft earth already there or plan...

Re: Chicken run

Good idea, Colin. Perhaps a couple of small apple trees, chickens love pecking around under trees and would probably eat the windfalls as well as any bugs trying to climb the trees.
How's N Norfolk at the moment? Lovely area, we often stay with friends at Fakenham.

Chicken run

My next-door neighbour has a large chicken run for sale, and I am wondering if any KGF members would be interested. It's about 30ft long and suitable for at least a dozen birds, with an enclosed run and night time accomodation and laying area at one end. It has been completely dismantled and ready f...

Re: Raised bed

Pa Snip - Perhaps your Homebase made the same mistake as mine did at first. When I enquired where they were they sent me outside where all the outdoors stuff is, including other "raised beds". In fact the Birdies ones were in flat packs inside the store and hidden under a bench!

Re: Raised bed

So did we, Jeff, but ours had a bottom to it! The hot water was heated up on a kitchen coal range and we bathed by the light of oil lamps.

Re: Raised bed

Here's the finished job - I've raised it even higher on tanalised planks on beer crates and screwed some strips along each side to prevent the compost pushing the sides out at the base. When my wife came to inspect my handiwork she stared at it and said in a suspicious voice "That looks as thou...

Raised bed

In Homebase the other day I spotted a Birdies Raised Bed, made of metal sections, nominally 5ft x 18* x 15"high, but can be assembled in several different shapes. It was only £10 so I couldn't resist it - but I have no idea what to use it for or where to put it! Has anyone else used one of thes...

Blow that

Happy New Year to all, tomorrow -
Just a reminder to those with leaf blowers to get them ready for heavy snow on fruit cage netting. Best way I found to get it off!.

Re: Leaking water butt

Have you tried an electric soldering iron on the crack? I've repaired several plastic items - pots, watering cans etc - by melting the edges of the crack until they seal up.

Re: Please can we have some more 'funnies'?

A friend sent me this, so be prepared to groan. It's not bad, though. Dolly Parton and Queen Elizabeth went to the Pearly Gates on the same day. They both met with an angel to find out if they would be admitted to Heaven The angel said: "Unfortunately, there's only one space in Heaven today so ...

What makes parsnips end up looking like the creature from the black lagoon? I get straight and contorted next to each other in identical soil. How do commercial growers ensure perfect growth - or do they?

Re: Well i'll be blowed....

I once worked with a girl, Suzy, who one could never "sexually harass" - she gave as good as she got. When I gave her a rather thin marrow and suggested she could make "Stuffed marrow a la Suzy" she studied it for a moment and replied "I think I'll do stuffed Suzy a la marro...

Westi/Monika
I see you mention snow on a fruit cage. Can be disastrous, but I found a leaf blower a great way to clear it!
