Re: I'm in love.....................with ducks!

Our local pub has a collection of ducks and chickens, living happily all together, in an enclosure next to the children's playground in the garden. The kids love them!

Re: Onions.

I've had the same result with my Sturon onions. Biggest about small apple size, but most about golf ball. I wonder if it is due to the very hot weather we had recently and lack of water?

Re: Beetroot surprise

My Pablo were given to me by a friend who is a semi-commercial gardener. The problem with buying them is that Moles appear to only sell them in batches of 2,500 minimum, for £6.50. Which is good value if you want 2,500! Anyone know how long they remain useable if stored in the fridge?

Re: Beetroot surprise

You don't have to let sit for an hour as long as you can accurately judge length of time it needs to cook them evenly. I just find it a bit more reliable to get them cooked to the centre by letting them carry on cooking in their own heat - and you don't burn your fingers on peeling!

Beetroot surprise

A couple of months ago my beetroot were attacked by leaf miner and lots of leaves began to turn brown. I thought I'd had it as far as a good crop was concerned, but to my surprise I've had the best crop ever, with some beets getting to the size of a small grapefruit! (The seeds were Moles F1 Pablo)....

Re: Garden wildlife

Hi TB. Fred was a lovely man who I got to know through mutual contacts and meeting at events. He was a great cook and did the BBQ at an annual fishing fund raising event for a children's charity, also supported by Chris Tarrant. One time I was standing with a group of anglers by a bookstall and rash...

Re: Garden wildlife

We get a lot of maggies, pigeons, rooks and crows. An old fishing friend of mine, Fred Taylor, once told me how to tell rooks and crows apart. He said if you see a lot of crows together then they're rooks. If you see a rook on its own, then its a crow!

Garden wildlife

We're getting quite a lot of wildlife in the garden this summer, apart from the usual wild birds. A flock of parakeets pays a regular visit, as do a couple of squirrels, a fox and two pheasants - both cocks. (Gay pheasants?) Our son and his wife stayed one night recently en route to Gatwick, and sle...

Leaf miner

My beetroot, which were growing fabulously, have been hit with leaf miner before I could get enviromesh over them. I've stripped nearly all the infected leaves off and put the mesh over, but I expect it will spread again. How badly does this affect the actual beetroot - total wipeout, just growing s...

There's anew airline at Gatwick - Air Viagra. Their slogan is "We get you up, we keep you up, and we get rid of Virgin everywhere"!

Black Hole

I guess we've all been gasping at the photo of the black hole, 55million light years away. But what I want to know is how do we know that it's still there? It could have ceased to exist 54 million years ago!

Re: Social Care and a legal milestone.

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that FGM shouldn't be banned, just that it should be re-named MGM!

Re: Social Care and a legal milestone.

Rather than banning FGM perhaps it should be extended to men - starting with Christopher Chope and proceeding to those who rape women.
