Re: Tree ID please

I agree. I had even contacted the head forester in charge and he didn't know what it was.

Re: Tree ID please

That's fantastic, Sally. Thank you. It does look exactly like a Styrax. Much appreciated.

Tree ID please

We went for a wander around the local landowners estate on Sunday - and I spotted this rather attractive shrub/tree with dangly bits. Now I can't seem to find it in any of our books and wondered if anyone here is a tree expert (or has a better book). Plantsnap wasn't much help either or any of the t...

Re: Spring proper, Bits and Bobs.

Just about 5 mins of mizzle here in Dorset - then it all went away.

 I saw, on the telly (so it must be true) that our next food source will be jellyfish.

Re: My quest....

Thank you - tried all 3 on the RHS list but out of stock. Tried local botanical gardens. Hardy plant societies, horticultural societies, rare plant nurseries, local Facebook groups. Social media. (Been at it for weeks,) Not giving up.

My quest....

Ever since I saw a picture of the beautiful Skeleton Flower - Diphylleia grayi - I've been on a mission to try to obtain one. The flower becomes transluscent in the rain - weirdly attractive. Just doesn't seem easily available at this time of the year - either hideously overpriced or just out of sto...

Re: Dragonfruit (Pitahaya) and other unusual...

I tried getting a crop of tiger nuts a few years ago - came to the conclusion that we aren't tropical enough here in Dorset. However, I might just try again as we're definitely getting warmer.

Looking forward to hearing the results of the talk. There seems to be so many different compost mixes nowadays.

Oh - that's a shame. If it's not the seed or the propagator then I'm thinking maybe it's down to the compost?? What did you use?

Re: Spring proper, Bits and Bobs.

Wow - that's an impressive work load. And well done her indoors and neighbour for catching the little **** who was kicking the fence. Although it's been cold here (Dorset coast) - last night I didn't fleece the bananas and they survived fine - as did the busy lizzies and geraniums I planted in the b...

Re: Spring proper, Bits and Bobs.

Wow- that's an amazingly satisfying amount of work. Pots and wildlife relocated in one fell swoop. And room for more. Well done.
