Can you help

Can anyone help me name this very pretty shrub found on one of our very over grown allotment plots. It is about 3ft tall compact and not very spreading; has these very pretty pink/purple flowers and the leaves are tinged with purple to.

Many thanks

pruning figs

My fig tree has made so much new growth this year I really must do some serious pruning. I usually lightly tidy it up in Jan or Feb. but now it is 8-10 ft tall and spread more than 10 ft. I would think. It needs cutting back to a more manageable size; is Jan - Feb is still the best time to do it? Ma...

Re: Storing carrots

I've never had much luck storing carrots either. I find they are best left in the ground, they don't seem to grow much after the end of October and other than maybe the little black slugs have kept well into January. Then if I have any left will freeze them sliced and cooked and can be added to stew...

Re: How to remove stubborn glue from jars and bottles

I did try the white spirit to Mouse with no luck. The WD40 is still the best solution for me for even the most stubborn of glues. Glass isn't porous so washed with washing up liquid afterwards left no smell.

Re: Elusive figs

I gave up on the nut trees several years ago. They always seem to know exactly when they are ready. Never did have any to eat myself.

Good idea Primrose. Do you mean the sort of thing we hang up for the birds?

surely they can't have hidden those, they must have been eaten.

Elusive figs

My fig tree is laden with hard unripe fruit as is a friend of mine who has a tree in her garden next to the allotments but we are both at a loss as to know why the figs are disappearing while still hard and green while everyone else is telling me of their bumper ripe crop this year. Can't blame badg...

Re: How to remove stubborn glue from jars and bottles

Primrose I used to use Avery for labels but Staples do a very good one much cheaper. It's a while since I bought any; a box of 100 sheets x 21 will label a quite few jars. equivalent to Avery L7160. They do most of the Avery sizes in their own brand.
