Re: House chicken

Blimey, I'd better get tidied up if Cook is likely to visit! Flossy has happily settled back into her run, is eating well and will be there until the next cold snap. I have to admit it's nice to have the kitchen back without stepping over her or cleaning the floor umpteen times a day! I do miss her ...

Re: Interesting Facts?

Now I'm awake, I'm also thinking Lever Brothers and Port Sunlight. I saw a TV programme a couple of years ago and it all fits with what you're saying...

Re: Hollow cabbages

I guess that's possible OH. When I planted them, despite putting down pellets and netting, something stripped them bare, but they came back really strong, or so I thought. As I'd slotted them in a gap next to my Tuscan kale, I was happy that it was the cabbage being scoffed as I had plenty more cabb...

Re: Hollow cabbages

No entrance hole of any sort. I didn't notice anything wrong until I grabbed hold of it and it was very lightweight. Then I found I could just push the sides in! There was 6 like this.

Hollow cabbages

For the first time ever, I've had some hollow cabbages. They were roundhead white cabbages, gifted to me as seedlings to fill a gap. Thank goodness I had a full bed of good ones elsewhere! I planted them, put slug pellets around them and then covered them in enviromesh. They grew large, they looked ...

Re: House chicken

I find chickens to be very intelligent and usually very sensible birds. Huge characters too and underrated by most people, including me until I kept my first flock 25+ years ago. Flossy is still outside, but is taking a break and sitting in her hut, looking out of the door. She does tire easily thes...

Re: House chicken

Very true OH, very true. I have Flossy news. She was very restless today and as it's so mild outside I opened the kitchen door. She galloped off down the garden to her run and is now happily rotavating furiously, her little legs are almost revolving. She's had over a week with no exercise, so I've g...

Re: Mid Winter Bits and Bobs.

Very mild here today so hoping to get out into the greenhouse for a while. Plenty to do before the seed planting starts. One greenhouse is wall to wall geraniums saved from last year, they need a lot of tidying up.

Re: House chicken

It was my hen night OH. Tigger went as a chicken Kiev.

I have a feeling you went as the "(many a) fine cock (can be found in a tattered bag)" which was your signature at the time.

In the old days it was hard to keep up at times. I remember going on holiday for a week and it took me forever to go through everything when I got back. We did have some laughs...
