Many thanks for your very helpful comments all. I think I'll offer Primrose's suggestion to grow it on and to see what the flower head looks like and also try to find out more about the source of the compost as Westi suggests.
Thanks again folks. If I find out what it is eventually I'll let you know!

Re: The Giant Marrow Topic!
How does your marrow smell? With its nose of course! Or maybe it was just the runt of the litter?

Re: The Giant Marrow Topic!
You could be right Primrose. I've put it on a slate now in the hope that it'll keep growing. Otherwise I can see the red card going to Pa Snip!

Brassica look a like
Hi All, hoping you can help me (or a reader) identify a brassica-like plant that has popped up in his compost. Looks like a brassica and the leaves are cabbage like, but softer. Any ideas? cabbage 3.jpg cabbage 4.jpg He'd like to know if it will produce a head and if he can eat it. Any thoughts grat...

Re: Early Summer bits and bobs - 2017
No offence taken Pa Snip - I always expect a bit of ribbing and putting in my place when visiting the forum. It wouldn't be the same if I didn't!

Re: Early Summer bits and bobs - 2017
How very dare you Pa Snip! That was one of my own Crimson Crush plants from a few years back! :D I used it as an example of one of the great varieties that the gold medal-winning team have produced over the years. Bit obscure I realise and perhaps I should have stuck with the PR picture that was sup...

Re: The Giant Marrow Topic!
Oh no! Looking better than mine Pa Snip. My first one eaten by mistake, the second one I posted a picture of last week I realised over the weekend has a wonky end; the flower came away to reveal a kind of pig's snout or belly button! I think it'll rot. :( That's what you get for showing off! Another...

Re: Newbie Spanish plot photos.
I'm growing Marmande for the first time this year as I am the only one in the family that will eat raw tomatoes, but we all like tomato soup/sauces etc. Also trying Coure Di Bue which is an ox-heart type for the same reason, although do have some cherry toms for myself and Akron F1 for my sarnies!

Re: Newbie Spanish plot photos.
That's interesting - I'll look it out! Must have been hard to leave your garden here, but sounds like you have made yourself at home and doubtless another lovely garden in Spain.

Re: Newbie Spanish plot photos.
Ah of course! Sounds perfect for your climate there. It has suddenly dropped 10C today with quite a brisk chilly wind so back to business as usual here and my sun-loving veggies such as sweetcorn, tomatoes and squashes are looking confused and a bit disappointed - but I feel much better for it!

Re: The Giant Marrow Topic!
Thought you might like to see my effort so far in the giant marrow comp. Well actually this is my second attempt as Mervin as I have called him ended up being harvested accidentally and went in to a rather nice courgette, lime and coriander side dish! This is Mervin 2 and he is about 10in long as I ...

Very jealous! Must have been sooo hot in your tunnels lately. Mine reached 106F recently. What variety of tomato is that?
