I believe farmers are supposed to recycle silage wrap and feed bags and there are certainly firms that collect it, if you google it.
You could maybe find a local farmer who would add your bags to his recycle bin.

Re: Apple/cidar press
I have seen a square frame with a couple of squares of thick plywood and a car jack to do the squashing used. The difficult bit is finding/making a strong metal frame to contain it. You could make some sort of lever press with a long wooden handle (like 10ft of 2x4) and hang some weights on the end....

Try Rytons building products, they have more vents and louvres than you could shake a stick at.

Can you just uncoil a little rope then put your thumb on the pulley to stop it turning and just lift the rope out and around the pulley till you get to the knot at the end, chop it off with a secatuers or snips then re thread the new one all the time keeping your thumb on the pulley. best if you hav...

Well excuse me if I am not very sympathetic, cold in Torquay!
We have been snowed in most of this week.
Spring! we are still in the middle of winter in Aberdeenshire.

Re: Ragwort
Lizzie, Do a google image search of ragwort and you will see lots of pics. It grows about 3ft tall and has a bright yellow mop type head. I suggest you should be wearing gloves for pulling out unknown weeds and especially ragwort. I know it causes irreversible liver damage in horses so wouldn't want...

Re: Paint quality
John,
My joiner told me that about Dulux paint and B&Q just a couple of weeks ago.
So I bought my woodstain from the local builders merchants, no idea what the price difference is but didn't want to take the risk.
Maybe it is a myth put out my the builders merchants!!!

Re: Sheen Flame Gun.
Williams,
I have a parasene weed wand, I have had it ages and to be honest I haven't used it for zapping weeds lately but when you want to light a bonfire they are great! - turn the gas on, push the button.
I see that argos are selling them for £19.99 with a bottle of gas.

Re: Two Wheeled Tractors
Are you talking about buying new? because I would imagine it could get quite expensive if you buy all the attachments. On the other hand if s/h. it could take some time to find the implements. If you have a sizeable piece of ground why not a small tractor like a Kubuto or Yanmar? They often sell on ...

hedgetrimmers
You can't get the blades apart on my el-cheapo trimmer, otherwise I would sharpen them, I do clean them after use with wd40. It looks like I will have to buy a decent one, Stilh is a name I would seriously consider. What I really want though is to find a farmer with a flail trimmer who would do the ...

Hedgetrimmers
What sort of hedgetrimmer do my learned friends recommend? I have a cheapo petrol trimmer which has a double sided blade about 2ft long, it works fine on the beech hedge but on the lawsons cypress and (dreaded) leylandii the damn stuff just pushes away from the bar and then springs back after. I don...

Valve gap
Basil,
If you have ground the valves in and you have a gap even if it is only 4thou then your lack of compression is not valve related.
Face it, you need to look at the bore and piston.
