particles
My neighbour was telling me last week, when she was putting her bin out, that the Swiss had made some new particles. They are going to call them Higgins Bosuns. I'd like to try some for myself. Anyone know when they are likely to be in the shops?.

Re: Fruit tree graft
In the early Spring, I did six grafts of apple tree. Four of those grafted very well and one of those has an apple maturing. Very pleased with the result. 22.06.2009

Larkshall. . . thank you very much for that information. I've been using the tiller with the choke not fully in. Just pulled out a little bit.

Re: Wolseley Merry Tiller
Thank you John and Clive for your replies. Well, I fitted a new plug in the rotovator yesterday and put a squirt of Easy-Start in on the piston. Pulled the start cord a few times and got going. At last, I thought. A thick grey smoke came out of the exhaust after about ten minutes work, so I turned o...

Re: Wolseley Merry Tiller
Thanks for your replies. Your reply, Clive, jogged my memory of how I did it before one time. So, took apart, cleaned the points and reassembled. Still no attempt to fire up. I could see the plug spark when I took the plug out to check it and clean it. Plug was dry. Tried a drop of petrol on top of ...

Wolseley Merry Tiller
After it's winter rest, my Merry Tiller refuses to start. I suspect it the points need cleaning, having checked the pluf and so on. Getting off the flywheel is the problem, in order to get at the points. Just how much effort is normally needed?. If I hit it any harder I'll break something!. Any advi...

Re: Fruit tree graft
That carrot came out of the ground exactly as you see it. It has not been modified or enhanced in any way - either digitally or analogue - or by means of soil enrichment. It has a certain innocence about it which would not offend young maiden gardeners, don't you think!. Had I dug up a whole drill o...

small goosberries
The goosberries on both my bushes are small, though plenty of them. These bushes get forgotten about and weren't nurished last year. Could that be the cause?.
What should I do, and when, to have decent size berries?.

Viking Ride-On Mower start problem
I have a 2-year old Viking Ride-On mower. It starts everytime when I go to use it. However, after it's been going for awhile, if I switch off, it doesn't always start again. The starter motor will turn the engine ok but no attempt to fire up. This fault seems to happen when the engine is warmed up. ...

Belt alignment avoids wear
Well guys, I loosened the drive pulley and moved it further in on the drive shaft to within about 5mm of the engine case. I fitted a new belt which was an inch longer. It now loops loosly as it should around the engine pulley in the declutched position. Great to have it going properly.

Earthing up potatoes
I would like to earth up some drills of potatoes where they are appearing out of the side of the drill.
But is it ok to actually pull the soil over most, if not all of the leaves. I think I better seek your advise before I do so. It seems a bit drastic!.

I was saying the drive belt looks to be aligned ok, but really, with the lower lug of the drive plate not out far enough to engage with the belt in the idling position, surely the drive pulley must need to be positioned further in on the drive shaft. I can see the pulley could be moved in about half...

Worn drive belt
Thanks for your replies. I notice the lower lug of the belt drive plate is not projecting out as far as the top one and is therefore not guiding the belt. I can't see that there is any adjustment. It's just a shorter projecting lug. And yet the engine pulley is aligned ok, I'd say, looking along the...

Merry Tiller belt wear
This time last year several kind readers of this forum answered my query about non-starting of my not-so-Merry Tiller. My annual Tiller question this year is about belt wear in the one position of the belt. It also happened on a previous belt. The engine is easiest to start when the wear part is aro...
