Re: Tips for Scab prevention on spuds

Interesting Colin. Never heard of the newspaper theory. Certainly wouldn't work with the current "new fashioned" Telegraph paper which is thinner, less manageable from a folding and crumpling perspective and also seems to be less moisture resistant!

Re: Broad bean problem

Haven't grown broad beans for a while but don't recall ever having had that problem. Suspect Geoff may be right. Guess it's manageable if only one plant is affected but a real pain if the problem has spread across the entire crop.

Re: Mid Summer Bits and Bobs.

Five minutes of rain here. Barely enough to moisten the soil and now sunny again so worried about blight. It's been quite humid here over the past week but strangely no blight warnings. Wonder if those who trigger the warnings are all off work having been pinged ???

Re: Butterflies everywhere

Nothings but the damned cabbage whites here, especially in thst week of heatwave. Beats me how they seem to find even the tiniest break in the netting over my cabbages too!

Re: which climbing bean

This year most of my cobra didn,t germinate (twice !!) due to some very inferior non peat compost I suspect so have had to resort to climbing French beans from a garden centre. They were unnamed (immensely frustrating not to know what you're growing and the assistant working there couldn,t tell me b...

Re: Mid Summer Bits and Bobs.

Shallot man and robo. The fact you both remembered these particular dates shows that you remain the people you still were while your loved ones were alive. Treasure the memories you created together. There's an increasing wind here blowing up through the sunshine - a sign of the rain storms forecast...

Re: Tasty Garlic

It,s interesting the comment about sense of taste and smell diminishing with age because I too seem to be noticing that the garlic we're currently using doesn,t seem to be as pungently "garlic" as previously. I haven,t grown any this year so am relying on commercially bought , although con...

Re: Non peat based composts

Whilst on the topic of compost, I was wondering somewhat indelicately perhaps for some, what it is which causes our human digestion system to produce our own "compost" so quickly, compared to a compost heap. - the combination chemicals in our gastric system and body heat I suppose, but we,...

Re: Saving Sweet Potato

That looks a rather spectacular crop in the making.
Do they suffer from blight in the same way that ordinary potatoes do?

Re: Some days you just shake your head in disbelief.....

More of us should do that OH. Perhaps the scammers would become so frustrated and exasperated that they would put our ohone numbers on their "black lists". That would be the ultimate irony ! My husband's usual response from scammers alleging to be from Microsoft is "Oh, do you know Bi...

That's bad luck Chantal. I never know what to use for it these days that,s easily available . Most or the previous sprays I previously used like Dilthane seem to have been withdrawn or are no longer available .

Re: Has anyone got a deep-filled pie maker?

Oh the squid ink is not something I would have thought of but it would probably work well for a Halloween party ! You're right about not adding inedible decorations to food. The legal "compensation" culture has become too strong these days. You' probabky need a high personal liability insu...

Well it makes a change from the emails from Russian ladies looking for a nice Englishmen that my husband keeps receiving ! I see on YouTube there seem to be a number of people pretending to be vulnerable old ladies or gentlemen who are responding to telephone scammers and giving them a run for their...

Re: Blight

I wouldn,t be surprised to get another blight warning any time now. Just what we need now the fruits are starting to appear on the plants!
