Re: Will my vegetables be ruined?

Hi Primrose,
They should be ok, the odd beetroot will get damaged by frost, the only thing not to is to pick the beet whilst the frost is still in them.

Re: Cooking with beetroot

I tend to steam my beetroot, peel them and then just dress them with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, salt and cracked black pepper.
We leave them in the fridge and just keep picking at them everytime we open the door....... very sweet and tasty.......

Re: Cooking with beetroot

Beetroot will withstand frost ok as long as it doesnt get too cold-you will lose a few, but the main thing is not to pull them when they are still frozen, or affected by frost, I still use them in the spring when they start sprouting again .........

Re: rats

When the cold snap hit us recently, I went to feed my chickens and was amazed to see about 30-40 rats star burst from the food trough. I had been trapping about 1 a week for a few months and didnt expect this many. Having watched a recent Countryfile programme about rats they said that a fit full gr...

Hi,
I've just caught number 7 at my allotment tonight, it was a half grown one which suggeststhat there will still be many more. I have chickens so they come for the warmth and food (what we all like!).

They say that we are all within 10yards of a rat!!

Happy hunting......
