home made compost
I've at last been successful in producing some decent looking garden compost, and now I'm not sure what to do with it, apart from mulching! Can I use it in a mix for growing plants and veg in containers? Any tips gratefully received, cheers Lynda

Re: tree peony
Thanks to all for your responses. I regret I have lost the label, so am unsure of the variety. Having disappeared over winter, new shoots appear in April, grow to about 4 inches, dying back again in the autumn. I'm sure it was a tree peony!

tree peony
Not sure if this is the correct category for this question - I have had a tree peony for about 4 years, but it grows as a herbaceous, has never really established any growth. Could this mean the grafted peony has died, and it is only the rootstock surviving? Any advice welcome. lynda

tomato woes continued.....
Thanks to all for your responses. Its quite a mystery. Our greenhouse is a fair size, well ventilated, and we live in Scotland, so haven't had the heat wave- although it is warm for us! We usually get some leaf curl due to the temperature differential, but this is clearly different, upward curling a...

tomato woes
I am growing tomatoes in growbags in my greenhouse. Sadly, all the plants are looking sick, with leaves curling inwards. There is no sign of blight, or other pests, diseases. Looking on line, the plants have the appearance of those affected by contamination with a herbicide. There are fruits forming...

I have a lovely witch hazel, but only about half of it produced flowers. Should I prune out the non flowering section? If so , when would be the best time to do it? Grateful for any advice.

Garlic
I've some garlic about ready for harvesting. Some of them have a bulbous area on the stem, a couple of inches above the ground. Inside there seems to be some garlic cloves. Are these edible, or are they 'seeds' that can they be planted for next year? Any advice gratefully received. Lynda

wasp nest
I have a large wasp nest on the underside of the lid to a compost bin. I contacted our environment services who suggested I spray it with insecticide, which I'm a bit reluctant to do. If I just leave it, will they die off at the end of the season, could I move it then? I'd be grateful for any advice.

tomato blight
I grew some tomatoes in my greenhouse, but they were affected by late blight. Can I put the contents of the grow bags into the compost heap? or will this spread the bug?

Blackthorn
Hello, a few years ago I planted a hedge which included blackthorn, I think prunus spinosa is its botanical name. Our cottage backs onto a railway, the embankment is now full of blackthorn, and it comes up all over the garden, an amazing distance from the original hedge. Has any one any tips for con...
