Well I think it is discusting, the only bright colours I like in the garden are the flowers! Long live the traditional bee hives (& chicken sheds)
Oh dear I must be getting old!
+ I agree with Westi how many will get one and then loose interest?
So its a no from me.

Calabrese - Whats Wrong? What do I do?
KG regulars might remember the problems Ihave had trying to grow Purple Sprouting Brocoli and Cauliflowers? Anyway, at last 1 plant from the Calabrese I planted last year has survived and produced flower heads. Hurrah! However, the top one has only got to about 2" diameter and yesterday I read ...

chcikens and pigs
Just a word of caution; I am very pleased to read that your chickens and Kune Kunes get on well, but when I lived on a farm we had a few pigs, we also had a lot of very free range chickens, who often roosted above the pigs. We wondered where the chickens were going and sat out to shoot the culprit, ...

All look splendid, but as they have been indoors, what measures should I take re planting out? I popped them into unheated greanhouse when I got back last night, as fe...

Re the Bark Chippings, I think I have sold the magazine on, It was featured in a recent copy of Practical Poultry (I think)
I think it might only refer to the commercially bought stuff?

poultry spice
Poultry Spice is great for giving them a boost, ie when moulting, if they seem off colour at all and you cant put your finger on why. When the weather is prolonged wet, dark etc, gice for 2-3 days about once a month in the winter and it should imporve their feathers, health, egg production. It does ...

pure bred layers
Hybrids are speciality bred to lay all year round, many pure breds will go off lay in the winter, darker, shorter days. You can counteract that by using artificial light. But I would enjoy your hens for the beautiful birds thay are. You dont say, but many pure breds these days are bred for show, not...

chicken grass
Do not use bark chippings as recent studies show that they can be fatally poisionous to chickens. A good grass area is essential under Freedom Foods guidelines, even though it is very difficult to keep up with the seeding, to keep it up to scratch (no pun intended). If you feed mixrd corn along with...

Chickens
Why is everyone trying to get you onto Black Rock layers - They are a hybrid, designed to lay as many eggs as possible. I have nothing against them, I used to have a mixed flock of Black Rocks & Speckaledys. But they are not as tough as the traditional breeds. IF YOU WANT CHICKENS FOR EGGS AND E...
