Quince recipes

Does anyone know what you can do with quinces apart from quince jelly and putting them in apple pies?

Personally I wouldn't bother. I would just be careful next year that I don't let any water splash back up onto the plants. Blight grows in water particles on the plants.

Hi George Welcome to the board. I'm afraid I can't answer your question about your onions but just wanted to let you know that when you start a new thread you're given the option of having a poll on any question you wish to ask. For example, you might say "Organics is a load of old baloney. Do ...

I think I read that the most recent research suggests it's actually beneficial to grow runners in the same bed as it's one of those plants that has beneficial micro-organisms to help it grow. If you grow them in the same bed you're allowing these organisms the opportunity to increase in the soil, so...

You can also use old scaffolding planks for the edges. These are nice and thick and take a while to rot. For the length of the beds, I would say not too long as the temptation is then to step over them (and of course on them) to get to the other side. I think woodchip is definitely less labour inten...

If one has turned red they all will unless you have different varieties there. A few years ago I bought two packets of capsicum seed - one showed red peppers on the front and the other showed green. It wasn't until I'd gone to the trouble of keeping the seedlings and young plants of the two kinds ca...

I think if they're struggling I would leave them alone. You don't want to give them extra soil to push through. I doubt it's lack of nutrients that's the problem.

Regarding plums, I grow Oullin's Golden Gage. It tastes wonderful but is a bit tempermental, so I wouldn't personally recommend it. I also grow a common greengage - Early Transparent, I think - but it's very young so don't really know enough to give an opinion. Most people seem to grow Victoria as i...

Well I had them all over my willow although they've now reduced their numbers to rational levels, but never a one on my plums, which is a first.

I would leave them. They've obviously struggled to get going (could be a bit waterlogged from all that rain we had). But they're still alive. In my experience asparagus goes from strength to strength once it's established (and grows taller than you if you're only 5' 2"). Unless you're desperate...
