I think you just need to wait a few days for the peas to swell up inside the pods - I usually tell as the larger peas make the pod heavier - at the same time don't let them go over as they lose their sweetness.

hope this helps,

cheers,

I live near the sea and find alot of washed up & discarded fishing nets of various sizes. I've used these nets over beds in the past, the cats can't get comfortable enough to do their digging and you can grow alot of crops through it. I occasionally even use the small green garden netting, well ...

This exact same thing happened to me last weekend with peas, my fleece blew off and most of the peas were severed and laying around - in some cases they were a foot away in the broad beans which were also under the same fleece though they are all above ground by about 1"-2" and totally unt...

Just an update myself, the GD's all produced standard size trusses after the second one. Personally I quite liked having around 100 smallish toms on the lower trusses - I've been selling the surplus so the more the merrier! The triple vine & secondary root system needs to be experimented with ne...

3 Baby bear are looking very good and flowering, 3 Butternut have hardly grown in comparison and have a slight yellow tint. We've not had excessive rain here(for a change) so it's probably the temperature at night, I've seen a low of 9C on the mim/max though can't vouch for its accuracy. KC planted...

In a completely different thread (forum?) someone suggested rooting sideshoots at this time of year for a quicker crop - perhaps you know someone who can help with some?

cheers

June, good idea using the plastic bottle collers, perhaps you could try them with the tin foil instead of the copper tape, I'll probably try it myself next year.

someone mentioned "bluestone & washing soda" in relation to blight spraying here, before the era of newer chemicals - I suppose they remember the 40's.

anyone know what the bluestone would be?

Slugs again

Hi all, RE: slugs & snails, I've used the "Growing Success" slug pellet, m for 2 seasons and believe it works. I’m comparing it to other areas of the garden (in frames or netted) where I use the “meta” pellet and find slime & big DB’s on a regular basis. 1.00AM just had a sweep ove...

Tigger was saying that the cheap seeds will be in Lidl, Aldi and Netto in a few weeks time. What's the situation with these seeds? Where do they come from? I'm just a bit suspect after trying out their F1 courgette last year. Only year I've not had a decent crop of courgettes over the last 5 years. ...
