Re: Wanderers
We suffer from 'Wanderers' too....we have another name for them but that needs to be typed after the nine o'clock watershed. They take a shortcut through the site and often take things on the way...like you we believe we have our own 'home-grown' tealeaf on site as well We have a friendly PCSO who c...

Re: Wartime food memories
I have a business colleague who lives up in Oldham, I was with John one day up in Hebden Bridge where there are a few old back to back houses and cobbled roads....that took me back a few years. John told me that every Sunday for breakfast he has cereal with water instead of milk! When asked why he d...

Re: Batten down the hatches .....
We were lucky the worst of it missed Leicestershire... we had an inch of rain but hardly any wind to speak of. The work I did battening down the hatches (sealing all the greenhouse glass gaps) on Sunday morning proved unnecessary ...mind you it was a job I have been putting off for ages I was half e...

Re: You grow. Who cooks?
I do enjoy cooking and if I say so myself don't do too bad a job of it I am now banned from cooking completely I think it came about at the time when I always did the family Sunday lunches, I love puddings....so when I cooked we had a joint, roast potatoes, cream potatoes, oodles of vegetables plus ...

Re: Roaring weather and work to do...
Its strange this topic should appear today.. I was just looking at my plot with a friend this morning and telling him that I was a little bit behind with my winter digging. Although the clearing up is well under way the digging part has only just started...only a few weeks ago the ground was too har...

Good point.... I will ask him what the taste was like when I next see him.
I have to say this effort on his part was after a visit last year to see onions grown by a 'showman'...they were enormous in comparison

Onions
I am really miffed.... an allotment neighbour (and good friend) has grown his onions from seed this year....in his greenhouse in plant pots....I have to say they looked magnificent His only mistake was that he used 5'' pots and they proved to be too small, he has said that will be going to use 9'' n...

Re: Problems with spring onions
You are not alone....this year I have given up on Spring Onions totally.
Year on year I have had only one or two geminate from a packet.... ironically many packets were the White Lisbon variety

Re: Foxes
The resident foxes on our site were in the main most welcome...they kept down the rats and we never suffer from Rabbits This year they have not been seen and the rat population has multiplied... we can only assume that our 'plague' of badgers have seen them off. We have a special offer on at the mom...

Re: Lupins
I have a several short rows of Lupins approximately eight plants per row in various parts of the plot...they have been there for four or five years now and produce many colourful blooms, plus I get some self seeded plants each year for elsewhere. I love them as they are one of the first flowers to c...

Re: Khol Rabi
You can grate it in a salad or as we do slice into wafer thin slices, it goes very well with sweet peppers.
It can also be included in a stir fry.
I have had an exceptionally good crop this year and to harvest at the golf ball/tennis ball size is about right.
