Re: Stored heat for tunnel.
One of my older children (23) used to drink 4 pints in one sitting, and we used to have over 40 pints of milk a week, so we quickly collected the bottles. Better for him that alcohol, and his preference was skimmed.

Re: Stored heat for tunnel.
This is my system. Milk cartons filled with water all around the edge of the polly, I leave them in situ all year. Between the cartons and plastic polly wall I have radiator foil. I then double fleece tucking into the edges of the frame, and hold back with canes. Also have a black bin filled with wa...

Re: ALLOTMENT ASSOCIATION MACHINERY
On ours you have to have the in house H&S training and sign to say you have had it before you can borrow the equipment. Mind you it makes no difference, one plot holder had the training including information about suitable clothing and shoes to wear when mowing and strumming and still turned up ...

Loofahs
Hi All, Is anybody else growing loofahs this year?. My plants are currently growing about 4” a day in the Polly. I seem to have several growing but when I checked today one has turned a browny colour from green. It is still firm and looks fine but do not know why the change in colour. Maybe that’s j...

Re: Tomato conundrum
Thank you everybody for your responses.
In preparation for next year I think I will dig out the bed as much as possible, replace the soil with soil from my allotment.
Plant the tomatoes a bit shallower, and not put anything in the planting hole at all, then wish for a better result.

Tomato conundrum
Hi All, I have had an issue with my toms for the last couple of years. They are planted in the Polly good bush plants over the first set of leaves. In planting hole mixed well in I put FBB, aspirin, calcium, slow release fertiliser, and magnesium. The plants have plenty of light but grow thin, with ...

Elephant garlic
Hi All,
First year for me growing elephant garlic, some of mine has a seed/flower head forming.
Do I leave it or snap it off and now do I tell when ready to be dug up. It has been in since about November.
Many thanks

Red spider mite and aphids
This year I have had a infestation of red spider mite and aphids, this has destroyed all of my cucumbers, aubergines and peppers. I tried spraying with a oil-soap mix but that did not work. I also had marigolds liberally planted in my Polly too, all to no avail. I have now purchased 3 smoke bombs fo...

Honda vrs Mantis
Hi All,
I have a mantis and a Honda tiller, Both are 4stroke and both about the same age and been used about the same.
My question is which one should I keep, I do not need two, but both were a good buy second hand.
Thanks
Tracie

Plot allocation
Hi All,
How do you allocate plots. We currently allocate by date of application and send out a form for completion. We do not discriminate on the content of the form but go by the application date.
Our site is owned by the Parish Council but managed by an elected committee.
Thank you

I have one of the hand trowels, it is the best tool I have, I love it.
It is good and sharp and makes a good hand hoe too.

Re: Blossom end rot?
I had BER with my long peppers one year, I mixed my compost with some lime as suggested in a magazine and the following year had no BER.
Have not tried this with toms but it might be worth a go next year if you have this problem.

Re: Another cloche/hoop option
I use a similar system with my carrot box with the water pipe and canes and cover with the mesh. What I use to hold the mesh down is bungee cables, I join several together with the hooks at the ends and stretch them around the base and tuck the mesh under the bungees. This keeps the mesh in place. T...
