I haven't had much in the way of time lately,I was made Chair of Governors at my youngest's school and I've been on a learning curve that resembles the Himalayas! It wont entail much more work they said....Haa...what jolly jokers they are!

We've had the same problems with foxes coming into the garden and taking birds from under our noses but we haven't clipped the wings because we think it gives the birds a better chance if they can fly up out of trouble. That's the theory but the silly devils seem to forget they can fly when a fox is ...

I really enjoyed this one, especially the use of the snail shell as a grater, just goes to show how much can be missed on a dig. Oh....we had roadkill casserole last week and very good it was too,no shot in it for a start.

I don't normally watch gardening progs.I'm all 'journalisted' out I'm afraid but I was tempted to watch this one and it was quite entertaining BUT not very informative for new growers. If the idea was to tempt people to find out more then it might succeed but as a guide to growing it will not.Nice t...

Yep..I've encountered this before,in a pond about 30ft across and it turned out to be trapped air. It could be that the filling up of the water table has pushed the air out of the soil and it can't escape. We had quite a simple solution which involved loosening the liner in a couple of places around ...

If they were under the shade of a vigorous tree then it's possible they got hungry and/or dry no matter how well you fed the bed to start with.

If the strimmer has removed the bark and the green layer all the way around the stem then it will die.....end of story.

They only want to be 2-3 inches high to go through the winter, believe me you will get frosts! They will also be very prone to breaking off in the wind if they get any higher than that over winter. It wont make a lot of difference to cropping time either.

I made one out of a dustbin as per instructions in a leaflet but i found it just couldn't cope with the amount of stuff comming out of a busy kitchen and kept going slimy and flyey(ooh..I think I just invented a word) so I gave up and just put it all on the compost heap as normal...it's full of worm...

I've found that raised 'hump' beds have really saved time for me,you only have to dig and set them up once....and they have no woodwork edges so that saves on that expense. I marked out the plot in 4'beds....1'path all the way down and then made the beds by digging the path out as a trench and chuck...

Cherokee Trail of Tears has out-beaned Cobra for me this year, they've cropped well all summer and are still going strong. They are not such a forgiving bean of late picking as Cobra though, you pick them smaller or they will be stringy.I've had Cobra beans nearly 12" long that are just as good as...
