earthing up potatoes

Hi I'm not having much luck with my potatoes this year. I used grass cuttings to earth up my potatoes that I've grown in raised beds as advised by Monty Dom. However I've just checked them and the grass cuttings at the bottom around the potato plants seem to have gone very wet and mouldy. At the mom...

potato plant problem

Hi A few of my potato plants are looking very sickly with the leaves curling up and turning yellow. They were planted 30th March 2021. Do you think this could be blight (isn't it a bit early for that?) or vericullum wilt? The other plants that were planted 18th April seem very healthy but I've notic...

Re: Plums

Hi
If you have the patience, as so often happens, time has answered my query. I laid the plums on several trays in my porch and over the last couple of days they have started to ripen. So I'm delighted with that and a lesson well learnt.
Thanks for your help

Plums

Hi
A branch of my Victoria plum tree has broken off with quite a few unripe plums. I'd thinned out most of the branches but couldn't reach this one.
My question is will these plums continue to ripen off the tree or do they need to go straight to the compost bin?
Best wishes

pea mildew

Hi I've just discovered what I think is pea mildew on my pea plants. My instinct is to pull them up and destroy them immediately. But not all the pea pods are full. So I have two questions. Is it ok to eat the peas that are full on the plants and do I have to destroy the plants before the other pods...

Sprouting tree stump

Hi My daughter had a tree cut down about 18 months ago. She didn’t have the stump removed as the tree surgeon assured her it would die off and if it didn’t, he would return to treat it. It didn’t die off and has sprouted a lot of shoots from the stump. Despite her contacting him numerous times he ha...

Re: Using copper for slug control

Hi Judy Thanks for your very informative post on slugs. I already use the sticky copper tape on pots but have never thought of using it on loo rolls in the veggie garden. I will definitely try that this year. I usually have a multi pronged attach consisting of slug pubs, collecting them at twilight,...
