My friends in Turkey laugh that we buy figs in supermarkets as they grow everywhere there, car parks, wasteland etc.

Hi Primrose, I will definitely report back. I've planted the same batch of garlic with a standard B&Q compost to see if there will be a difference.......now the waiting........

I had a magpie visitor on my old house. He started being curious about me digging in the garden and after about a month started to come into the kitchen if the door was open and watch me cooking etc. We used to get 6 different visiting cats too and he was not bothered by them at all!

On the subject of wool, I have just bought some woolly compost. It does look lovely and is supposed to be an excellent alternative to peat based compost. Not sure how long the fleece takes to break down but it is being used in its natural state as a compost. The company is Dalefoot Composts if anyon...
