Not necessarily that obvious, Geoff, A horse chestnut tree doesn't produce horses nor does a crab apple tree produce crabs.

Re: Spring Bits and Bobs.
Presumably you are a woman. That's why you would suggest such a common sense thing. :D Anyway the removals company came on time with their big truck and their big-big guys. It took a few hours, and they got a cup of tea and bacon sarnies. They were very good! I'd recommend them. It's not been an eas...

Re: Spring Bits and Bobs.
I'm wanting it to rain as we forgot to bring a watering can from Kent to Glasgow(ish) and the stuff in the containers needs to be watered before we can plant the seeds. (This is pedantic husband's take on the situation. I would just use a jug of water from the kitchen.) The removal company have agre...

Re: Christmas!
Hi Primrose, Your idea of the 'voluntary sector' and mine differ hugely. I worked in the voluntary sector, often in war zones, for a few decades. I was usually well paid. The voluntary sector doesn't mean you don't get paid, like somebody's granny doing a day in a charity shop. It just means that yo...

Re: Christmas!
And there's still one of his spam 'edits' in this thread. Peter, I appreciate your efforts and thank you but the spammy bustard still mangled a lot of my posts which haven't been dealt with. For example in this thread I did not post a link to some car check site when I posted about Christmas and Lak...

Re: Breast cancer charity collection.
They can be very rude these days. I've had good stuff rejected because some snobby snooty wifie turned her nose up at it. But not at our usual two shops. They're glad of whatever you give them. We're always buying books for £1 in there and very similar things sell for £4.50 in the charity shop acros...

Re: Sticky Willies aka Cleavers
I didn't know sticky willies are edible. Keen to try. But I've not seen any for years. Also didn't know that they're also called cleavers. I'm also eager to try nettle soup and even went to the extent of buying nettle seeds. I suspect they're in our house in Kent, which we are still in the process o...

Grow Your Own Drugs
Easy recipes for natural remedies and beauty fixes by James Wong. I like James Wong and always enjoy his columns in newspapers. Husband was dropping off some stuff in our usual charity shop and spotted this book, based on a BBC series and published a long time ago (2009) and he bought it for me. I d...

Re: Christmas!
I am sick of that Darui guy. He follows me around, quotes my posts and later goes back to edit in spammy links. I've reported this many times but it's never been dealt with properly. Only a half-baked bit of post removal, and I'm left looking like I made a cra@p spammy post. I would be very sorry to...

Borrow rather than buy?
I just read on The Guardian's website an article about borrowing rather than buying. You know, do you need a whole toolbox full of kit for a one-off DIY job? A "library of things". https://www.theguardian.com/money/article/2024/may/06/how-rental-libraries-of-things-have-become-the-new-way-...

Re: We're moving to Scotand
Hi Primrose, The thought had occurred to me but I've already rejected the idea. a) It's new build and not really my kind of place for a permanent home. and b) Husband's work is only a few minutes walk away BUT the 'office' is moving, supposedly next year, which is likely to mean it might happen in 2...

Re: We're moving to Scotand
Home? Well it's the right country. :D But I'm a Teuchter (NE) and this is Greater Glasgow (SW). We still have the AirBnB. Our furniture, etc, gets delivered to the house on Friday. The house owner has converted the double garage into rooms, which is exactly what I would have done. And now we have a ...

Re: We're moving to Scotand
We've got a very lovely house to rent for a year, while we find somewhere to buy. Wow! It's a nice house.
So we can get a herb garden and whatever else into containers and take it with us when we move on. So happy! I've really missed having a garden however small.
Yippee aye oh aye...

Vouch - driving me mental
There's a firm called Vouch - they verify your details so your proposed house rental or whatever else can happen. That's fair enough but they're starting to kick the backside out of it. Do we want them to set us up with utility providers? No thank you. Do we want them to set us up with this, that an...
