Magazine issue month vs when to plant

I’ve been a subscriber for a few years now but still an experimental gardener, where the term gardener is used loosely. Just a bit of a background so my question makes a bit of sense. I live in Scotland about 800ft above sea level and get a lot of harsh winds across my large garden. I do have a rath...

Can’t enter competitions

Hi,
Trying to fill in competition forms. None of them work. It keeps saying I need to fill in all required fields despite filling all the fields.

Using iPad to view the competition pages.

Anyone struggling?

Re: lack of fruit

I am not an experienced gardener, but last year both plum and cherry were laden with fruit. We couldn't get rid of it by giving away, making jam, pies, freeze etc. This year no cherries, zero! Plum is sporadic... So maybe one year they do really well, the next not so good. Just posting to say you ar...

Re: Turnip harvesting advice

Hi again, My beetroots are Chioggia from Suttons - they are the ones with red rings with white flesh. (m) My turnips are the Snowball variety that came with KG magazine. The beets are rather very large but still very tasty. The turnips leaves are turning yellow. They certainly are not as luscious gr...

Turnip harvesting advice

This is the first year I'm growing turnips. I've been harvesting as I needed them, and my chickens love the turnip leaves but I still have a lot in my raise beds. The advice from RHS is leave them in but protect from hard frost and use as and when needed. Would they not go woody if left in the groun...

Radish glutton!

I may have gone a bit overboard with sowing radishes! Now I've got more than I need - not sure what to do with them!

Any recipes?

Re: mouldy compost question

Thank you so much for your responses. I will give it a go at ginger when it's warmer, although Scottish summers aren't very warm :) For all other seedlings, I'll definitely go for new compost with new seeds.

mouldy compost question

Hello all, I'm new to gardening or growing much really. I decided to grow ginger recently (thanks to Pinterest). I managed to have it sprouting but soon enough the compost I planted in became mouldy and the plant died soon after. Now I'm trying again. Again the little bud managed to peak through the...
