Re: Our changing slug population

... I fleetingly thought of flushing them down our toilet but knowing their tenacity I had a horror of visiting the downstairs loo this morning and discovering all 30 of them had painstakingly crawled back up the sewage pipe and were all cosily nestling around the inner pedestal rim! No thank you !...

Re: Our changing slug population

http://www.slugwatch.co.uk/?page_id=21 That's put me right off my food, Alan! It seems that to properly identify my slugs, I would have to have a much closer look at them. I think I'll pass on that! Though this has reminded me of a childhood prank my sons once played on their grandparents. Do you r...

Re: Our changing slug population

After lower numbers of snails for a few years, I have seen a huge increase in their numbers again this year in my garden.
Isn't it strange how these things come and go, and with no obvious pattern across the country!

Re: Our changing slug population

I also keep uncovering what definitely look like strange-coloured slug eggs - a variety of colours - when I start digging over in spring. As I haven't bought in any garden centre /nursery plants that might have the slug-egg-sized fertiliser in them, I can't think what else they could be, and when I ...

I'm about to go and remove some marrow plants now that the village show is over - there are probably loads lurking under them!

Re: Our changing slug population

I need ducks then - though the greenish horrors are so repulsive that i find it hard to imagine that even ducks would want them! :P

Our changing slug population

Over the 20-so years that we have lived in our present house, the large (in both size and quantity) garden slug population has changed completely! For years, we had the typical big black slugs, but it struck me recently that I can't remember when I last saw one. They have been completely replaced by...

Re: Summer Bits and Bobs

I haven't had one cucumber yet this year! One of my two plants was shoved into the only space left in the packed garden, a small, half-shaded spot at the base of a eucalyptus tree that I killed off last year. It's actually got some fruits on it now, which is more than can be said for the other plant...

Re: How to present non-alcoholic beverage in village show

BTW Mouse tell Mr Mouse his "assistance" could get your entry marked "Not as schedule" because the schedule specifies a bottle of cordial. It should specify the bottle type (colour), labelling and presentation, just as onions have to have the top tied. Thanks again - it's only a...

Re: Pa Snip Enterprise visits Agricultural Show

I agree 100%, Monica, and already have some entries lined up that are far from perfect - in fact, I am not sure yet if any of my huge number of vegetable/ flower entries will be up to scratch this year. (I thing I am probably the most prolific entrant in our show, putting in a lot of veg, crafts, pr...
