Re: Top tips to start seed off

Hi, So the chilli seed went into a heated propagator on the windowsill. Of the eight pots I have seedlings in seven. Joes long is a no show. Question time - how long do I leave them in the heated propagator? Should I transfer them to an Un-heated one? I haven't used the heated one in awhile as I lo...

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs - 2017.

Dull, windless but warm, off to the garden centre to meet my daughter and her family, don't need anything, but it's my birthday soon(the real one this time lol), so I might need to drop some hints.

Read some of it, very good, though some repeated what's in the magazine, but useful what I've read so far.

My Lemon drops are the ones doing nothing, I didn't pre soak them, so maybe another week then I'll try soaking and sow some more.

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs - 2017.

I am lucky in my location, I'm only a mile from a fab beach for flatties, less than 10 miles from several good rock marks for Cod in the winter and Mackerel, Coalies, Pollock and a chance of edible crab and even a lobster. There's shell fish to be gathered, sea weed if you're brave enough and I have...

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs - 2017.

Westi, last year was my first season with new garden layout, three new raised beds and no ground area to plant whilst everything was re vamped. New greenhouse now in place, so a lot I grew under plastic last year in raised beds will be in there(Bulb fennel and Sweetcorn took a fair amount of room) a...

Re: slugs

Can I ask folk to consider alternatives to slug pellets, they have been linked with the deaths of hedgehogs and Song Thrushes apparently. I am also told that they actually attract slugs and snails so are counter productive.

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs - 2017.

Warmer and drier today, so turned over a compost heap ready for going under the spuds and brassicas and chopped a few logs and filled the wee log store before it starts snowing or raining again.

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs - 2017.

Dull, misty but dry up here and a bit warmer, had some pretty rough east winds over the weekend, but doesn't seem to have damaged anything.

Re: Greenhouse ventilation for tomatoes

Blight is another problem though, that's airborne and if you leave the door open, you might just be letting in more than fresh air.
