Re: Water gardening

There are no fish, so no need for a filter, just a natural balanced wildlife pond, full of shrimps, larvae and of course predators like pond skaters, water boatmen, newt and frogs. Birds bathe in a shallow corner and luckily so far, no herons.

Water gardening

As some of you know I dug a wildlife pond during the covid lockdown of 2020, planted with native plants, it is now looking like a more natural pond and the wildlife is coming in.

Re: Early Summer Bits and Bobs.

I don't use chemicals here, rather try alternatives first, hedgehogs and thrushes die after eating slugs/snails that have eaten pellets.

Re: 2024 season begins

Just picked a quite large punnet of Strawberries from the greenhouse, Flamenco are a good cropper, especially compared to the Mara des Bois I did grow. Flavour is good, but the Mara are tastier I think.

Re: 2024 season begins

Thanks for the kind comments, I am having an endoscopy, but under general anaesthetic to remove some polyps from inside my stomach, I have been having this done for several years without being knocked out, but it seems more intensive work is required. Hoping to be in and out the same day, CT scan to...

Sweetcorn planted in the greenhouse and outside, walk was walked in sunshine, then heavy rain put a stop to further outdoor activity.

Re: Early Summer Bits and Bobs.

Another nice morning, clouding over now, but very pleasant pottering and sitting by the pond watching frogs, newts and damsel flies. Greenhouse doing the tommies arm pits, watering, strawberries coming, looks like a decent crop and the peas in the greenhouse are podding, just as well as the slugs an...

Re: Early Summer Bits and Bobs.

Warm and sunny despite the Harr rolling in off the sea, got the big hedge clipped with hand shears so as not to disturb nesting birds too much, left the top for later. Grass cut too, it is almost looking summery out there.

Re: Early Summer Bits and Bobs.

We have constant rain, but luckily not heavy, it should do more good than harm in our immediate area, some areas have sadly seen a lot more, something we will have to plan for I guess.

The harbour along with many others on our coast have been taking some beatings from recent storms, a lot of boats are taken out of the water during the winter.
