Re: shop garlic growing?

Thanks, that's what I thought... I'll break the news to her gently (after Christmas). Or maybe just a little white (green!) lie and I will tell her that I did tie knots

Re: shop garlic growing?

Question on garlic growing... Mine is still growing strong and hopefully the tortrix caterpillars will not be interested... But I have a question on how will the garlic become a head of garlic? Does it happen naturally or do we need to do something special to it? My mother said that at some stage I ...

Re: small green things eating my strawberry leaves!

Thanks Steve. I will now go through the plants with a fine tooth comb to pick them off. I am reassured about the garlic too. If everything else fail, then I will buy a loom and weave silk...

small green things eating my strawberry leaves!

Hello all Well, I thought that December would be a quiet month for pests, with them being killed off by the frost we had earlier, but over the last few days I've still seen some slugs, a couple of big caterpillars near my carrots and now this - no idea what they are so any help welcome... They are e...

identify the tomato?

Hello My nephew and his wife have recently moved to the Central African Republic and are keen gardeners (which is also a good thing as there are no supermarkets or Ocado delivery there!). While preparing their allotment (in the style of hugelkultur as the soil is poor) they came across a few plants ...

Re: Gardening Diaries?

I take photos of everything and then put them in folders and then when planning I write notes which I then photograph and file too. I do back up but have now quite a lot of photos (with a very small plantation compared to yours). So let's see... My OH was given a RHS diary for his birthday, and he s...

Re: Slugs and snails

Copper tape worked best on the planters but I do not want to take a mortgage to put it around the raised beds. Beer was alright but a pain to manage if it rains... I tried pellets but they seemed to go mouldy so not sure about these. Salt was super effective but kills the grass if poured on it. I am...

Re: Blight Resistant Varieties

A good old aspirin tablet dissolved in water and sprayed regularly to help prevent blight? whoop whoop. I am adding that to my routine next year when growing tomatoes! Thanks Tony!

Re: Blight Resistant Varieties

Hopefully with all the frost we are having (though it has mellowed ove these last few days) all the nasties will be killed... Slugs, blight spores, white flies, things etc... and we start afresh. I will try Mountain Magic next year. I like the name (and recommendations too of course)

Re: Addicted to juices. Advice on juicers?

I've never heard of masticators before. My colleague swears by Vitamix, but then I was in shock when seeing the price of these... Looking forward to reading this thread!

Re: A Like button, please?

Well, on the contrary, my view is that it can help engage people a bit more. On the front page of the posts and below photos, there is a number of 'viewed', but while you do not necessarily always want to write a whole post, a little nod/wink, in the form of a like or something like that could help ...

Re: SMART METER

Thanks Colin - not much choice then. Well, we'll see when we arrive there... Re electricity providers, one of my colleagues recommended this website: flipper.community. They search for you and will switch you automatically when they find a saving of £50 (they will then charge £25, so no real loss in...

A Like button, please?

Hello KG Admin, Do you have in your development pipeline the addition of a like button for posts and pictures? If yes when do you think this could be implemented? It would, IMHO, add a bit more interaction on the website. It could be something more than just a Like button, but could be using the smi...

Re: SMART METER

Hi there, sorry for the delay. Yes indeed I got this email that now Co-op energy will take over the 160,000 GB supply clients AND, surprise (nice), honour the contracts until their end. Nice Christmas present and a few more months of a really good deal on energy. In the new year I will look again at...
