Re: Type of pot to use in greenhouse/conservatory
Thank you both for your replies. Also raising the point about how I am going to support them. Builders haven't started work yet so I have some time to think about it!

Type of pot to use in greenhouse/conservatory
Hello. Does anyone have any advice on what is the best pot to use in a double glazed greenhouse/conservatory please? I am thinking of moving my tomato growing from my polytunnel to the greenhouse. I usually grow them straight in the ground. Also hope to grow peppers, chilli and aubergine. I am wonde...

Re: advice and ideas for eating jerusalem artichokes
Thanks Chantal. I've been looking in my local supermarket - maybe it isn't a big enough store to stock it - will have to try online or further afield.

Re: advice and ideas for eating jerusalem artichokes
Thanks for all the advice. Tried roasting them with potatoes, parsnips, swede and carrot and they were delicious. Stomach was ok the first evening but when I repeated them the next evening I had a little discomfort, so I am proceeding with caution. I am still trying to get hold of some Asafoetida, t...

Yes you are right Westi - I've just been googling and Yacon also contains inulin, but as you say I have the answer now - thank you. Off to supermarket tomorrow then.

Re: advice and ideas for eating jerusalem artichokes
Thanks Westi and Monika. I will give the Asafoetida a try. I am giving my pigs one or two of the smallest JAs a day and they seem to be ok with them, so I shall use the little ones up that way. I can't remember off hand what variety these JAs are (will have to see if I can find a receipt) but they a...

advice and ideas for eating jerusalem artichokes
Hi all. Just looking for some advice on consuming Jerusalem artichokes please. I planted 10 tubers and harvested half a barrow full. I found a soup recipe but as I had heard that they can cause wind if you aren't used to them I only ate half a small bowl. Wind wasn't so much of a problem but I suffe...

Re: Pruning young fruit trees
I didn't realise you had to do it around Xmas time. I thought I had until March. Everything seems to be emerging early as winter so mild. I have hawthorn bushes producing leaves but these are now getting blasted by all these gales. Thanks for your comments I'll just trim ones crowding centre. Thanks...

Pruning young fruit trees
I have a problem. I should be pruning my 2nd and 3rd year bush and half standard apples and pears, but some of them look like there are buds almost ready to open. Is it still ok to prune or should I leave until next winter?

Re: Melons Anyone?
A friend grew melons last year. She had done for a few years now and until last year not brilliant. Last year she grew them in barrels of rotted down horse muck in a glasshouse and with the high temps and sun had good crops and they were as big as shop bought ones - delicious, juicy and sweet too! S...
