Odd webpage...

http://www.kitchengarden.co.uk/forum/viewforum.php?f=19 seems to go onto a Kiteboarding site that is nothing to do with KitchenGarden.... thought I'd let the mods know.

Re: Best fruit/veg of the year?

Gooseberries and redcurrants in the soft fruit front, and climbing beans (French & Runner) on the veg front. Freezer is still loaded with them and our small household is going to be hard pressed to consume them all before the next crop arrives without dying of boredom! My leeks have been unusua...

Re: Best fruit/veg of the year?

Apropos Jerusalem artichokes, Stonecoloured: ours do very well every year but every year I also end up throwing lots of them away because we can't manage to eat them all without exploding! How do you avoid that? In soup I use asafoetida, but you can't really do that when roasting them. Yet to find ...

Best fruit/veg of the year?

It's been my 1st year of planting fruit and veg for myself and the Jerusalem artichokes have produced head and shoulders above the rest! They're great to treat like potatoes (and imho more tasty!) and they're great raw in salads. Easy to scrum with a nail file, don't need peeling! They give a lovely...

Re: Bird ID?

He(?) is loving the wheelbarrow I've got full of water.

Watched him this morning, bobbing along the side and concessionally dipping to grab grubs and lavea (think it's mosquito lavea)

Re: soup making

We were camping and thought we could make some bread on it... Didn't work. It is amazing If you get into making pizza more, try and get a pizza shovel - they're great for getting stuff in and out. Dusting the stone with fine semolina is the way to stop it sticking as well Also, Tesco do a really goo...

Re: Bird ID?

Thank you for the video :)
The bouncing it does as it goes into the tunnel (the 1st time) was what the one I saw was doing! :)

Re: Bird ID?

That's what it looked like! Thank you!

Now if I can only figure out what tune it was raving / bouncing to, then we'll be sorted :)

Bird ID?

Just seen a bird on a branch, bobbing up and down. It had a grey head and wings, a yellow belly and a long thin tail. About blackbird size and just looked as if it was bouncing up and down on the tree. Occasionally it would wipe it's beak on the branch.

Does anyone know what type of bird it is?

Re: soup making

Richard - How are you doing with the pizza stone? We used it and have found that it makes much crisper and regular pizza. It's also good for when people are coming over, grab some dough, add toppings and "walla" good foods. The only thing I'd say is, watch it with an open fire - the stone ...

Re: Flowering Over wintered chilli plants?

I've just gone out to start pruning my chilli and pepper plants, but quite a lots of them are still in flower / throwing up little fruit. Should I still prune now (for over wintering) or am I way too early?

Forgot to add that to my list - I'm doing coffee grounds too :) Mainly on the Tomato plants, as I've been told they then help the plants.

Re: Copper tape collars!

Bucket by the door with water and washing up liquid - CHECK! Several beer traps at ground level - CHECK Copper tape collars around the plants and pots - CHECK Slug pellets sprinkled lightly around plants - CHECK So now the questions are... 1. Do you just flush the dead critters from the bucket and b...

Thank you very much for the answers :)
Training Ducks to ask "sensitive / stoopid" questions is the way to go :) I highly recommend it!
