Re: All systems go, Bits and Bobs.

I took a risk with the French and runner beans that I had planted out as they had become pot bound. it didn't pay off by the looks of the leaf.
Greenhouse went down to zero but everything seems fine in there, I suspect the outside temperature was about the same as Geoff's.

Re: Slugs.

The beer traps are going in steadily(mineral water bottles cut in half) Once I'd stopped the dog from imbibing they seemed to function, I still have a number of other areas to "bait" but so far I'm pleasantly impressed. Cans of John Smiths seem to be preferred to 1664. Both are 2 years out...

Re: Slugs.

I found what I hope is the answer so thought I'd post it here for interest of others. It would appear it is the Yeast that is the attraction, they will imbibe lager although the yeast content isn't as great. there is also mention of making up ones own "brew". I think reading between the li...

Re: Slugs.

a lot of articles make mention of using beer traps, does it have to be beer or can larger be used. I'm assuming the attraction may be the yeast?

Re: Aluminium tubing

There is a picture within this link which shows 20mm blue alkathene on a 4ft wide bed, it is also used within the raised beds which are either 4ft or 2ft wide. the one in the picture usually has debris netting over it which is heavier than enviromesh, even with the gusting we have had over the past ...

Re: Don't let Pickles pinch your plot!

I thought the decision had shifted to local planning who had the power to relocate Allotments under certain legislation. I'm not altogether sure that the plot its self is protected only the right provide.

Re: Aluminium tubing

I use Alkathene/polypropylene as support hoops. m I think I used the 20mm diameter. I can check and also let you know what I got from the roll. I would also consider the plastic water or electric conduits they have a fair section of fittings but could work out pricey. If I need to make low "cag...

Re: A good moan about multi-purpose compost.

Before I sourced a regular supply of Erin I was partially drying out Bowers MP compost and adding sharp sand at close 2:3, it certainly helped matters also alleviated green algea forming on top.
