Perhaps I should have checked the forecast better before I planted out the broad beans and sweet peas this weekend, being throwing hailstones at them this morning much going past horizontally.

Bit of a surprise that I could achieve this after the weather we have had. This is my '3 legumes' bed, broad beans down the middle and sweet peas and runner beans each side. The broad beans will be ready to go out after a couple more days in the cold frame.

Scotland is able to have better public services because the Barnett Formula that calculates the devolution grants is too generous so I am subsidising free further education in Scotland for example. I don't understand the pressure for independence as they would lose all this English money.

Verbena bonariensis free seeds this month. Has anybody ever grown them from seed, how quickly do they develop? Yes OH Wednesday was 39.4mm and we already have 15.2mm today but it does seem to be easing. Quite strange to have a couple of low flying Chinooks come out of the clouds and fly by just above eye level across the valley.

Nice to have some dry weather for a change even though the wind was rather cutting. Had a long overdue big bonfire, that overdue it included the Christmas tree and wrapping paper!

Thanks for those comments. All seems well, operation went to plan and issues were anaesthetic reaction which she has had after previous operations.
