Re: Spring Bits and Bobs.

Arrived at work in sunshine and blue sky but with darkening sky to the West, half an hour later absolute pressure washer rain... A day of potting and sorting followed...squally showers on and off all day and mighty windy. Saw a red kite hanging into the wind just above the lime tree avenue, they are...

Re: Spring Bits and Bobs.

A dish of stewed rhubarb was an element of my tea yesterday ;) You'll run faster on a dish of rhubarb.!! ;) Forecast said it was supposed to be raining already here.....hence my push on with things yesterday but only a few spits and spots..so far. 90% chance of rain on next two hours here...so, yes,...

Re: Spring Bits and Bobs.

I had quite a catch up in the big garden yesterday and today, kitchen garden wise. Sowed chard and varieties of beetroot, set up the hoops for the carrot mesh...and dutifully worked the ground in the morning, left it a while, with thoughts of that instruction from JB and sowed nantes5 this afternoon...

Re: Spring Bits and Bobs.

One of those days when every job was suddenly workable...but there's only so many hours in a day. ..and time was spent, with an amused audience, coaxing a normally immensely reliable rotavator to perform from its sojourn in a damp corner of a shed... Normally the onion ground will pull down from win...

Re: Spring Bits and Bobs.

I had a drive out to Newark yesterday...that tested me, I just haven't driven any distance for ages.. My dear old boss used to reckon that in his day it was 'motoring' and now it was 'driving'....Motoring sounds enjoyable, whilst Driving is blooming hard work... I visited the 55 year anniversary eve...

Re: Spring Bits and Bobs.

I've been sorting my prospective beetroot patch today....it had remnants of last years potatoes lingering about in there...and then ran in to some creeping sow thistle roots at one corner... Forked over twice and then put the sharp spade in really deep to severe a few shrub roots that had found thei...

Re: Spring Bits and Bobs.

That must make me an old boy...as I can't remember either.. ;)

.. I have just now got two short rows of Bunyards Exhibition pushed in here...

It's certainly a bit all over the place...Roses are a couple of weeks up with level of leaf and ornamental cherry blossom seems well on too.

Re: Spring Bits and Bobs.

Convinced that time was racing by and how far behind I felt things vegetable planting wise were, I have just put in 6 short rows of Biztro shallots in the big garden...I pulled a bit of Winter dug ground over yesterday in front of the north wall and miraculously it stayed dry overnight...there were ...

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs.

I bet the farmers are getting really concerned now, as there was a lot of the Autumn sown crops they were unable to get in and some of the ones that did get sown have succumbed to the flooding. And now not being able to get the Spring stuff sown, must be very concerning for them. Think any cereal r...

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs.

..and tonight is self inflicted hair cut time....different machine..."I liked it so much I bought the company" is the make.

It was very white frosty looking on the sides but has darkened with careful trimming...although no idea of what it's like at the back...

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs.

I've been looking at my lawn for weeks....waiting for a drier moment... Answer seems to be... that there isn't one...so today is the best I could muster. International travelling Rover mower started first pull on last years petrol in the tank.... The mower is Australian manufactured, sold new from a...

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs.

Goodness, that really confirms that we are still the drier side of England..even though we are wetter than we can work with.

Our low flyer today was an A400 Atlas....I missed it....heard it whirring along...but as seems to be the norm' when something interesting goes by...I was in the loo.!

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs.

Yesterday was depressing and dark. Grey with rain once again....however, having spread some riddled soil on a turf repair I had got some grass seed on just as the steady straight down rain commenced,...enough to wash it in without washing it away thankfully....so just maybe for once that was spot on...
