Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs.

I always say that snowdrops are more reliable to time than anything else in the garden year so are at the peak of flowering mid Feb, come what may. They were, well maybe a day or two up, but I would agree they do seem to be going over quickly but the rate of growth on the daffodil, primroses and the...

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs.

Half inch of rain (sleet at first) yesterday by home time with another inch overnight and it made it up to 1.7" today, although it seemed wetter out in it . The old boiler house has filled up again so its just under potting shed floor level. Steeping River is to the top and adjacent farmland is...

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs.

Hello Robo, My purchase was from Mattressonline.co.uk and was the Sleepeezee, Perfectly British Strand 1400 Pocket Mattress which is classed as Medium-Firm. I did a lot of pondering and researching round the websites as there are hundreds of choices and many suppliers. I tend to be brand loyal and t...

Re: Late Winter Bits and Bobs.

I got another 5ft strip of digging done today whilst yesterday I weeded the two narrow strips of border by the front gateway. These are home to pink hyacinth on one side and a red species tulip on the other..my dear old mum would despair if she knew the state I had let these run to...but I caught th...

Re: Jack Hargreaves to return to Talking Pictures

I think the first time I saw a nylon line strimmer was when Jack H' demonstrated one on his programmes..

Re: Early Winter Bits and Bobs.

I'll post this then to see. Made me smile as I once had a 'post' arrive in the post...it was an up stop stay for one of the Church bells. One had got broken and the bell company cut some timber to length, taped on an address label stuck some stamps onto the timber and posted it parcel post. I fitted...

Re: House Plants

Had a conversation today at work about bulb Lachenalia aloides..the Cape cowslip. My mother had some that I suspect came from her cousin over in Leicestershire, 'Uncle Tom'...kept them for years but now sadly lost and I can't seem to see any just as these were. Lovely bright flame orange pot of flow...

As I stepped out the back door about 7am I caught sight of a curved sliver of red on the horizon out to the ESE, or therabouts...tried to make it a vapour trail heading over the horizon..but then quickly realised it was a sliver of moon showing...rising quite rap...
