Re: Apple programme on TV
There's been a lot of criticism on the Forum over the years regarding the superficial, entrtainment-focused standard of gardening programmes on TV. I'd just like to say three cheers for an intelligent programme on the British apple by Chris Beardshaw on Wednesday. Tucked away on BBC4, of course, bu...

Re: Magazine freebies, but not for subscribers...?
Subscriber loyalty is a big subject. To me - as an ex-circulation manager, and now running our on-line subscription systems & sites - it is well known that obtaining new customers is (on average) 2.5times more expensive then keeping existing ones. One difficulty we encounter, is when negotiatin...

Magazine freebies, but not for subscribers...?
Morning everyone, I've been buying the magazine for a long time but never subscribed until last month. A few days after receiving the June issue I noticed it on sale in a garden centre group place. It was in a wrapper with four packs of seed inside and a free (just pay p&p) Goji berry offer. Ver...

Re: New type of allotment theft
I agree keeping gates locked is a problem on most sites, but we have found pilfering of crops etc. on site is usually from someone who has a plot and therefore is less likely to be questioned as to why he/she might be wandering about. When there is large amounts taken or damage done then it is from...

Re: Safety of peat free composts
I have been merrily using New Horizon this year... lots of it. It never even occurred to me to think what kind of wood they might be recycling so I appreciate the above posts. I know I find quite a few bits of glass in it. Will have to have a re-think now.
