Re: Alan Titchmarsh on peat use

I had stopped posting on this forum but JohnT's comments have compelled me to post. I wholeheartedly agree with your comments. I'm appalled by the behaviour on this, and other threads by the same people time and time again. However many years of experience they have or how high their post count does...

Re: Government consultation on phasing out peat use

It is an interesting read Barney. Not sure how balanced it is. Talk of factions etc I find off-putting. An organisation that sells peat products aren't going to encourage people to go peat-free are they really? I know that's a bit cynical but they are a business selling a product which they convenie...

Excellent post OH.

I hate supermarkets, noisy, overcrowded, often come out feeling very stressed. Waitrose is nice, I agree Alan, but a bit too pricey for most people.

Re: Government consultation on phasing out peat use

I am beginning to think that your days must be spent thinking of ways to ban this and that and taxing or applying levies to the things you obviously dislike.

It's clear from John Walker' s post that he's talking about something the RSPB and seven other organisations are proposing.

Re: Jamie backs peat-based compost?

I wasn't 'slagging off' Jamie Oliver. And neither I think was Primrose. We've both raised a valid point.

Re: Jamie backs peat-based compost?

Jamie Oliver is a free agent and is only doing for Homebase what he did for the SA and most of us can see this but apparently you cannot! I don't think you can compare them. While Jamie Oliver's campaigns for better school dinners, and tackling obesity are to be applauded, it's pretty obvious that ...

Re: The Future of Food and Farming

I am afraid that he is going about it the wrong way because he puts up peoples back and wonders why he gets a bashing every now and then. It's interesting that bashing someone on an internet forum seems acceptable. What happened to discussion, debate? I am very well aware of what John is about. He ...

Re: The Future of Food and Farming

Johnboy, I think you are misunderstanding what John Walker is saying. Isn't he saying that earth friendly organic gardeners are an example of 'clever, intelligent farming'? We have got to try and find common ground and work from there. I agree with you here. We have to try and move away from the oft...

Re: The Future of Food and Farming

I think that the spirit of the document says that GM has it's part to play and this means that these people must give up their meaningless rhetoric against GM which more often than not is totally untrue. The use of theories presented as facts is their usual trick. Do you have a specific example of ...

The Soil Association released an initial response to the Foresight report yesterday. Honesty on technology is needed We need to be honest about the failures of certain technologies - such as GM - to provide food for a growing world population, says Molly Consibee, the Soil Association's director of ...

Re: Anxious times

Try the witch test from the Middle Ages. Tie up suspect. Throw into pond. If they sink and drown, innocent. If they float, they are guilty so remove and hang. Maybe, my sense of humour is on holiday but I can't see why you think your comment is funny. Or why it's supposed to be funny? All it does i...

Re: Environmentalist's breakfast dilemma?

Jaw jaw jaw, we only have one planet...we argue till the cows come home
and nothing changes - perhaps its time we all acted and took personal responsibility.

Nature's Babe - with you 100% on this. Individuals should make personal choices and take responsibility for them.
