I had a Tawney Owl as a pet many years ago, he was around for several months when set free and regularly came home and would feed from your hand ..great birds as well.

Little gem with out a doubt is the finest tasting lettuce, sown inn succession it is ready to eat in 2/3 weeks

Mine have been planted and mulched for 2 weeks now, climbing nicely with plenty of flowers setting nicely..second sowing still indoors though catching up.

Hmm! Is this a case of post hoc ergo propter hoc ? You top and tail your leeks and get good leeks, therefore the practice works? Well depsite the comments I intend to continue trimming both roots and tops of my leeks..the result prove they benefit from this , also planting deep with a dibber , up to a foot if posible ..provides some wonderfull leeks.. Trimming the root and tops , planting deep encourages vigourus growth, saves messing around with pipes and carboard tubes as the leeks naturally become white due to the depth of planting ...been doing it all my llife and always have excellent leeks all year round.

Just to add..I always trim the tops and roots, works well and always produces good leeks The tube and plastic pipe ..not sure about and would probaly not bother with if you want normal leeks for table consumption.The deeper the hole when planting the better the leek and by trimmining and planting de...

After years of battling with carrot fly I now grow mine under cover ..sow thinly and cover with a sealed mini poly tunnels , covered with either fleece or polythene ..always produces super carrots. Of course rains gets through the fleece so make holes in the polythene , leave until ready to lift, ch...

I always use chicken wire for my peas to climb, plant each side along the row , works nicely.
Advantage is that you can either leave it in situ for next year or simply roll it up and use again somewhere else, and you have not to worry about getting rid of the old pea sticks .
