Try looking in the pet sections of shops we got some in our local pound shop to make balls to stop blanket weed in ponds... 8)

In the times they had a novel suggestion; if they have a preferred location to scrat, dig a hole and bury an inflated ballon just below the surface. Can you imagine the surprise I don't think I would dare try it. Hmmmm, My next door neighbour has 9 of the little darlings, but of course none of them...

The worms we have were much easier to find than that, & what a lot of people don't realise is that you can use the red ones from an existing compost heap, not the normal white ones you find when digging the garden though... Young Sparhawk spent a lovely afternoon furtling through the compost arm...

Question now answered, just in case anyone else is doing the same, it comes to about 2 cubic yards & an old gardener told me they were taught generally alow 1 ton per cubic yard...

Raised Planter...

I am in the process of following the raised planter section like the one in the mag although mine will be 12ft X 5ft & sloping from 9" to 13" is there an easy way to work out how much soil I will need the advert I have seen in my local rag gives a price per ton... I am hoping that one ...

I joined the Armed Forces at 16 (in 1983) & my first H.M.S. at sea at 17... & so could have been called to go into action, so not to have been allowed onto an allotment unescorted as I might put a prong through my foot I would have thought was a bit extreme...
