Re: Is vegetable gardening work?

I agree with everything everyone has said. My husband has a really stressful job and is hopeless at trying to relax, but the allotment does it for him! he's so happy over there. It is hard work at times, but its for yourself so feels different, plus you can stop if it gets too much. Its therapeutic.

Glutney Chutney!

Started this chutney early today, from H F-Whittingstall's River Cottage Year, its a great recipe, excellent for using up gluts of courgettes, toms, apples and plums. Will post info if anyone wants.

Re: What motivates you to grow your own produce?

In no particular order -

Working outside
Being more 'in touch' with nature/the elements
Satisfaction and pleasure of growing and eating own produce
Providing food for family
Giving surplus to friends and family

...but sowing in modules is pretty much foolproof and removes the need for "a bit of care".

I too have noticed that I've hardly had any slug damage on the allotment this year, also no blackfly (fingers crossed!).

Fab day in Suffolk. Been on allotment since 6.30 am, lots of weeding done and have come home to collapse in the shade. Have a great day everyone!
