Re: Springwatch 2010

Hi I agree with you Elaine about Springwatch this year, and anything that encourages people to become more aware of our wildlife and gives ideas of what we can do to help - well thank goodness for them! Also, good to see Wild Night in raising money for the BBC Wild Life Fund - reminds us we can all...

Re: Would you like to live in 1984?

Dear Jemimap I have to say it's all gobble-de-gook to me. More importantly: If you want to reach the people, you have to speak in a language they understand. I am sure there are many of us who have reverance for mother earth and ALL that she provides for us in EVERY aspect of our lives. Many of us ...

Re: Trophy winner

Fantastic! Very well done Essexboy I think local shows which continue hold competitions like that do encourage others to have a go, it's when it all gets SO SERIOUS and ultra competetive that the fun disappears. Best of all to grow for eating and it's a bonus if they win a competition too! Well don...

Is AUTUMN arriving early this year?

I know from the date on the calendar that we are in mid-summer (just had to check that after last few 'glorious' days! ha ha so much rain I nearly bought a sou'wester) So, just wondered whether some of you have noticed anything that suggests Autumn is on its way early this year? About a fortnight a...

Re: Are blackberries early this year?

Hi
The blackberries around the garden fence are no-where near ready yet, fruit recently started to set and some on another side of the garden still at the flowering stage. So Glallotments, yours seem as if really early, perhaps you've had more sunshine.
Lucky you! Enjoy your abundance! :D

Re: Wind damage

Hi to you both Had very heavy rain and gale force winds here too. My turnip and swede tops are squashed as flat as helecopter rotor blades, and my runner beans have struggled a bit already without this extra blast of cold wet unsettled weather. Sadly the tallest sunflower (which I had grown for the...

Re: St Swithun's Day

Yep! showers on THE Day here too. Luckily cut lawns yesterday as black sky loomed and just finished picking strawberries, some peas and broad beans when showers commenced. Thursday Night/Friday early hours rain most of night and its literally hammered down all day - so perhaps had 40 days rain in o...

Re: Egg laying time - cabbage white butterflies

Hi Primrose I know what you mean, panic gripped me when I saw one fly into my greenhouse and I nearly tripped over the dog as I ran from the conservatory to catch the flitting little blighter before it did any damage - luckily it retreated out and flew around the garden; later it probably sneakily ...

Re: Paint quality

I usually use Dulux and occasionally Crown paints as over the years when I thought I'll save a bit of money I have bought store's own ie: Focus, Woolworths, B & Q or Wilkinsons etc. only to find that the quality of cover is just not quite the same, also, sometimes I have found that some of the ...
