Re: Certo or powdered pectin

Hello Geoff. I much prefer Certo to the powdered stuff. I used the powder one year when I couldn't get the Certo and wasn't entirely happy with the flavour or the colour of the strawberry jam. It might seem expensive to buy the Certo but I think it's worth it, for the result. Last year, I used the J...

Re: Cucumber Problem

Hello Michael...welcome from me too. Frustrating isn't it? My first thought, looking at your photographs, was a magnesium deficiency, which also shows up as yellowing of the leaves between the veins....this is easily remedied by giving a foliar feed of Epsom salts. My second thought was, how often a...

Re: Cosmos

Hello Monika. Last years' Cosmos were supposed to grow to 36" but they outgrew this by far...they were magnificent but too tall and bushy for where I'd planted them out. This year I seeded a variety which was again 36"....they are nowhere near that so far. Nevermind, they might surprise me...

Cosmos

Last year, the Cosmos were like triffids and grew to 5 feet tall, despite them supposedly being the ones which grow to 30" or so. This year, they are doing nothing much at all!.. They have barely grown since I planted them out back end of May and have had poor little flowers. I can only assume ...

Re: blueberries

Last year, my husband bought me a pack of three Blueberry bushes from his foray to the pound shop ....I wasn't impressed (it's the thought that counts ) but gave the poor things a chance, expecting them to keel over. The instructions said that one of the plants was a pollinator to the other two. I d...

Re: Is Comfrey as invasive as some suggest?

I think there are an awful lot of plot holders on our site, who wish they hadn't planted comfrey out on their plots...it's very pretty as well as being magic stuff...
....but oh boy, does it spread.

I would like the Bocking 14 but as I wouldn't know one from the other, I'm not going to bother.

Re: Poor Germination

For the first time ever, I've had trouble with Runner Beans not germinating...they were last years seed but that hasn't been a problem other years. I bought a new packet, sowed them five days ago and these ones are already popping up through the compost. Speaking of compost, I'm fed up with all the ...

Re: I'm in!

Thank you everyone. Good to be back amongst friends. Dear OH...so glad I made your day! Yes, Ken still has his motorbike but hasn't been able to ride it for the last three years. Now he has arthritis in his shoulders, apehanger handlebars aren't exactly ideal. He is toying with parting with it....hi...

I'm in!

Strewth...I'm back. I can't remember the last time I managed to get back into this forum....it wouldn't let me in, wouldn't accept my old password or my new one, so in the end, I gave up in a fit of pique. Don't know what happened today but here I am.... How is everyone? Hope you are all okay. I hav...
