banking up spuds / using grass cuttings ? when to stop ?

Hi can anyone tell me if its possible to cover my spuds with grass cuttings as i seem to remember hearing this can be done ? As ive banked them up around about 6-7 inches and now when i try to add more soil it just tumbles back down . PS,, When do you stop banking them up ? Many thanks for any repli...

Hi Mike Many thanks for the info on planting spuds , I have 3 upvc cloches doing nothing at the moment so it could be possible to plant a few 2nd earlies now under these to speed them on there way rather than waiting a few more weeks and planting them all together and having a glut that all need usi...

Thanks very much Geoff for your rapid reply . I think i read some where you should dig over your potatoe patch a week or so before planting if so that could well be my weekends work many thanks again from a complete newcomer to veg growing . It a bit of a learning curve this year ,,,

potatoes 3 different types when to plant them ??

Hi Im chitting my spuds at the moment , Can anyone give me a rough idea as to what date,s i should be looking to plant on ? I have 3 types to put in VIVALDI CHARLOTTE & CARA will i be looking at putting them in around the same time or will they be different as they are different types of spuds

Hi Peter Thanks for your rapid reply to my question the reason i was worried was because they had been completley covered for around 10 days and i had got used to the idea of having an everlasting supply of onions this year also plenty of garlic for cooking many thanks

Cheers Freddy The spuds were on a tray in the garage near the back door ( half glass ) not much light though . Have now moved them into tha conservatory with the blinds sightly closed so they dont get direct sunlight many thanks

Hi Monika many thanks for taking the time to answer my question thanks i took a look as you suggested . Then decided to take my seed potatoes out of the box and lay out in the garage in an attempt to chit them only to find detailed instructions tucked away right at the very bottom of the box !!
