Re: Pet hates?

Finding a gang of Chinese people in my garden picking the plums a few weeks ago, and then some more calling at the door this week asking if they could get some pears!!!!! - at least they asked this time. Hmmm - this is a recurring theme as my dad discovered some neighbours had been stealing apples ...

Re: Autumn bits and bobs

First drops of rain here - very glad of it though as i hate the hot weather.

OH - i love harvest festival too although one year my dad was a circuit steward and 11 services in 5 weeks all "ploughing and scattering" does wear you down after a while!!

Re: Your Five a Day ?

I was just wondering about the schemes that divide up fruit and vegetables as the Australian scheme. I wonder are tomatoes, courgettes, French and runner beans, cucumbers etc. and all the vegetables that are technically fruits counted as fruit or vegetables and what about rhubarb which is technical...

Re: Chillies

I haven't been able to grow chillies for the last few years so have had to buy them from the supermarket. I put the whole bag in the freezer seeds plastic and all. Just take the one i want out and cut it up when i need it. They defrost really quickly and don't lose any flavour as far as i can tell.

Re: HP - unintended consequences.

My OH is a brown sauce connoisseur and at any one time has between 12 and 15 different varieties on his special brown sauce shelf. We haven't had HP on the shelf for quite some time (it seems we've now created a competition between assorted aunts and uncles as to who can find the newest/most obscure...

Blowing a gale here in Sheffield too. 1st casualty of the new house. Fencing panel blown down and irretrievibly broken. Looks like a big expense to replace the whole row now :(

Re: Your Five a Day ?

Just to add to the confusion i understand that Australia use 7 portions as a minimum with no more than 3 to be fruit. I had an interesting discussion with a psychologist about the notion of the 5 a day/7 a day promotion and he pointed out something which i'd not really thought of before. Eationg fru...
