Re: Magazine freebies, but not for subscribers...?
 I used to use one that was a barrier cream, worked a treat even kept under nails clean if worked under nails first, but haven't seen it lately and can't remember the name. I don't always don gloves! I seem to be following in my grandma's footsteps. She always wore what i (as a 4 year old) use...

I'd never heard of these before so had to google them to see pictures/videos etc. What amazing creatures.
I'm now so excited about getting this garden into shape so entice all these lovely animals into my garden.

Re: Hoarding/too much stuff
I used to be the antithesis of a hoarder however the gardening and sewing now mean that anything i see be it wood, material, old curtains the works suddenly takes on a whole new look. Why is it that in the past i would never have looked twice at old curtains offered my the Mother-in-Law but now thin...

Re: When to use Bonemeal
I have never used it myself but Geoff Hamilton always used to sprinkle a little underneath any new veggies he was putting in the ground as he said it helped them get established quicker and grow strongly.

Re: Double digging
Thanks for your replies guys. i haven't got loads of organic matter at the moment (moved house 3 months ago and couldn't bring the old compost bin with me). I think i've said I've currently got 1 1/2 spades depth so it sounds from your replies like that should be enough. I'm digging with a double ac...

Double digging
I've just started crafting the new veg patch and am going to have 10 new veg beds. As the ground has never been anything other than lawn since at least the 1960's i've decided that it's crucial that i double dig (i think that's the correct term - 2 spades depth down) each of the beds. starting on on...

Been having a look and of the varieties i'm keeping an eye these two pairings keep coming back to me as distinct possibilities: Falstaff and Egremont Russett or L...

Re: Encouraging newcomers
I always told my pupils when I was teaching that there was no such thing as a silly question. I was once told that the only silly question you can ask is one to which you already know the answer. If you don't know the answer how do you know it's a silly question. I agree with many of the suggestion...
